Hey guys,

I'm running with an XC3 3080 Ultra right now, but originally wanted the FTW3 edition. It wasn't available and the XC3 Ultra variant is all I could grab. I'm considering doing the Step-Up program to the 3080 FTW3 if possible - but the only real difference is about 45MHz on the core clock. For any of you who have the FTW3 Ultra - what boost clocks are you seeing? I can throw a +45MHz on Precision right now, but I don't know if that's a 1:1 scale that would match the FTW3 from a 1755MHz clock. Would the overall boost be higher because it's not a 1:1 scale? I know silicone lottery and the third 8-pin play a factor here, I'm just trying to get a baseline.

You should definitely not do the step up program (at least until the rest of us get our 3080's)  ;)

It's not the boost clock you should be concerned with. As kevinc313 just put it so eloquently, it's the higher power limit the FTW3 version has.
Maximum boost clock is going to mostly be to do with silicon lottery. The boost algorithm on that particular chip will determine its' max boost clock and will vary from chip to chip.

Hey! I'm just going to lay this out here for you: https://www.verywellmind.com/best-online-anger-management-classes-4692060

Maybe you can take a peek at that and do yourself some good :) Considering your narcissistic and douchey answer wasn't really needed :) I asked to be helped, not to be berated. Also, in regards to power limits - that's why I mentioned the third 8-pin and had questions in regards to 1:1 scaling - this is also why I mentioned Silicone Lottery. This is supposed to be a forum where we can come to ask questions and be helped, right? Or is this a forum where we just berate others for having questions or wanting a better understanding? Sorry, I wasn't aware that the EVGA Forums were only for people, such as yourself, who spit back information in a condescending light.

Thanks for responding with helpful information :) I realize the vBIOS plays a huge part here and I should have made that correlation previously. Higher power-limits on a different vBIOS and the extra 8-pin are all contributing - At that rate, not sure if it's worth it for me to Step-Up to the FTW3 or not...guess I'll have to think on it over the next two months. Thanks again. :)

    Wow, high effort.

Do you understand that performance limitation has little to do with out of the box boost clock and everything to do with the power limit, in particular with the potential power limit of a 2x8-pin card vs. a 3x8-pin card?

    Because you should.

I'm boosting to 2085, holding 2070 constant on my 3080 XC3 Ultra - about +110...from what I hear with others, 3x8pin power is really beneficial for the 3090, but not so much for the 3080's? Not sure on that, but I don't know how much gain I'd see from higher power limits if I was to switch to a 3080 FTW3. What's the difference? 375W vs 400W? I'm honestly not sure...

Incorrect, you must step up (gee seems like the Step-Up name might give that away) to a higher performance card. EVGA will however let you Step-Up a card that cost more to a card that cost less, you just lose the extra you paid for that card, EVGA doesn't give a credit. So a RTX 2080 Ti owner can Step-Up to a RTX 3080, you just lose the extra you paid for the 2080 Ti.

Piknik, yes you can Step-Up from the same model of card as long as the card you are Stepping-Up to has higher performance or is a higher tier model. Look at example 3 in the picture, a GTX 1080 FTW owner could Step Up to a GTX 1080 Ti. Also the only RTX 3080 card EVGA is currently offering for Step-Up is the top tier RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra card, it is the highest performance of any RTX 3080 card EVGA is offering right now.
