Not too high - TJUNCTION = 100°C for that CPU ---> but not really much info in your post Room Temp ? Radiator & fans on loop ? What else is in the loop (GPU?) was it also under load & for how long Case How where you loading the CPU & for how long ?

Not too high - TJUNCTION = 100°C for that CPU

Room Temp ? Radiator & fans on loop ? What else is in the loop (GPU?) was it also under load & for how long Case How where you loading the CPU & for how long ?
23°C-25°C ambient. External 3 x 140 radiator with 95CFM fans. Only CPU in loop. I was referring to the CPU-Z validator, which takes a few seconds. Stress tests such as LinX or P95 cause thermal throttling (+100°C) unless AVX offset is 3. The CPU-Z validation was run with AVX offset at 0.

9900k running at 5.2 GHz on all 8 cores with a vcore of less than 1.3 under load and core temp of 75c is pretty sweet.

Personally if this were my rig I would bump down the clock to about 5.1GHZ and if the temps stay at 75C under load then you're fine.

Is there any comprehensive (and I mean detailed, step-by step, hold my hand all the way) overclocking guide for the Z390 Dark? I believe I should be getting better temps, I must have something set wrong in BIOS, probably voltage wise.

Seems toasty for a custom cooling loop. As previously suggested I would back it down to 5 or 5.1 on all cores and see if you can get that cpu vcore lowered a little more. Also it appears you running with HT (Hyperthreading) enabled in the bios. If so try disabling it, would lower your core temps a few degrees. I personally have mine disabled as my main focus is on gaming, which HT really does not do much for.

From reading reviews, those processors do seem to run hot. What CPU cooler are you using? The only things I can say is try to get the Vcore down or change the Load Line Calibration (Vdroop) so that the Vcore doesn't increase much, or at all, under load. Get a better CPU cooler and/or apply some liquid metal TIM like Thermal Grizzy Conductonaut between the cooler and processor IHS..And if you really want to, delid the (soldered on) IHS from the CPU die and use liquid metal TIM there too. Or don't worry about it, the cores won't throttle until 100C, that's the TjMax temp, anything less than that is fine but it's generally accepted that anything more than 10C below TjMax is good. Nothing you can do about it getting hot when running AVX except to increase the AVX Offset so that it downclocks when running AVX. Also, just run IBT at a Standard Stress Level and not Maximum. And you should be running at maximum cooling, fans and pump at 100%.

I had posted the screenshot of HWiNFO showing every sensor reading in post #11 above. On AUTO, in BIOS they are: VSA=1.41V, VCCIO=1.408V.

Thanks for the tip. Lowed both to 1.3V, currently running HCI Memtest, 16 instances with 1000MB each. Hopefully, it will pass 1000% with no errors.

Yes and no. Your VCCIO and VCCSA is much more than is probably needed, but won't affect CPU temp any (doesn't for me at least)..My VCCIO and VCCSA on [Auto] run 1.424/1.416 respectively..I set them down to 1.20/1.25 respectively and still maintain stability (much less pass POST) for my CPU/RAM overclock of 5.2GHz/4000MHz. I see your Vcore is hitting 1.4 Max under load in HWiNFO, that's probably more than needed too and why your CPU/Core temps are higher..Try to get that down as much as you can by either changing the Load-line Calibration and/or the Vcore Offset.

OK, I will try the VCore adjustment. The Memtest ran overnight, 1300% with no errors, so 1.3V is stable for 4500MHz RAM frequency it appears. Other than VCore, what else would help with temps?

OK, thanks. I have already relidded the CPU with a RockitCool copper IHS, using Conductonaut between it and the die. Kryonaut on the waterblock. I hesitate to use LM on the copper IHS and waterblock, after reading about it sometimes 'gluing' the two together after some time. I just ordered a Heatkiller IV PRO Nickel block and a RockitCool direct die kit. Going to try without the IHS and see if that does any better. Still working on adjusting the VCore.

So, Got the HK IV block, RockitCool direct die kit. Running LinX 0.9.5 at 5000 MHz, 1.31 VCore, HT on, AVX offset at 0, maximum memory used, I previously was getting 72°C CPU Core Max. Today, it is 66°C.
