So I've been going back and forth on what CPU to get for my new build. I really want to try AMD out again and was looking into the Ryzen 7 2700x but then I was looking into the I7 8700 as well. Those were going to be my cheaper options but then I of course had to start looking at the I9's and the AMD Threadrippers.

All I will be doing is gaming so I don't really need all the extra cores but it's always nice to know you've got a beast under the hood if you ever need it. Should I just go the cheaper route and use the extra cash on a nicer mobo/gpu. My concern really isn't the cash but I don't want to go to crazy here.

Lastly I was trying to look into some boards for the chips mentioned but newegg wouldn't load anything for me. Any mobo recommendations? I want one with all the bells and whistles. My last build was an old x58 classy with a 920 proc so I'm a bit out of date with all the current tech although I have kept track of things. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Unless you're in a hurry, I'd wait until Intel comes out with a CPU that has all the spectre vulnerabilities fixed.  Should be later this year.  That's if you decide to go the Intel route.

    Hello Jinky,

I personally have the 8700K and I'm loving it! Here's a little link to a site I refer before making choices on components like GPU's and CPU's. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-2700X/3937vs3958. I do have an 1800x for one of my media PC's at home. Though in comparison to gaming, intel does have the upper edge by just a tad. 5-10 FPS on average difference.

I was the same way with the same 2 CPU's, i just built the 8700k. Any side by side videos you watch if you were to take away the numbers/benchmarks like  FPS/Heat etc etc you cant see the difference between the two. I mainly game, nothing big but so thats why i did the 8700k plus as for the X470 and the AMD i read mem issues and didn't want any part of it

Go with the best Intel you can afford. I did that last time with the X-58 also W5690 @ 4.2 & 1080ti  and still using it!
Nine years and it still slams battlefield and other games around not @ max mind you but does very respectable.
I'd say definitely got the monies worth out of it.The point being get the best you can and don't look back.
Wait for the newest chip for the hacking cures or just get er now four cores are has beens in my book.
Js my 2 cents good luck on your new build see ya out there.

Threadripper gen 2 is coming out very soon. That is what I would wait for. You could also wait until those are released and see if 1st gen Threadripper falls in price.

Thanks for all the input guys, much appreciated. I suppose I could wait a bit long to check out the threadripper 2. My last build was 9 years ago or so and my current laptop is from 2011 (has a 560m in it lol).

I agree with bdary on this.  Intel has issues with security and until they are secured...it makes the Intel decision a bit shaky.  Wait until Intel releases a processor that has the vulnerabilities fixed.  Then look into the performance.  AMD looking better and better all the time
