My wife and I have moved to Linux from W10 after the 1809 issue in which we both lost files. My wife lost all of her University graduate work and 20 years of teaching outlines as well. Our backups which are robust enabled complete recovery. But, @ 62 years of age, I have run out of patience with the poor quality of W10. Then when the "fixed" 1809 was force fed to my PC - W10 decided to remove some of my utilities I use regularly from O&O Software.

As a family we are done with Windows. I am a retired sys admin - and I have choices.

Linux is working perfectly for us now and has since the 1809 debacle back in October.

I have W10 on a small SSD dedicated for gaming. Now - Steam has released my purchased games for Linux. I no longer need Windows at all and I wish to remove Windows from my system entirely. (I've got multiple drives)

The questions is: How do I control the fan/pump speeds under Linux?

and if this is not possible - then

If I go into my case and disconnect the USB - will the pump/fan remain on my settings from that point forward?

And one last question - if needed - under linux how can I set the fan/pump speed to full speed? I am using a 1950X Threadripper. If I do extensive compilation from source code, I may need the pump/fan to run higher.

What does the block do if it is powered on sans USB cable?

Or do I need to use Flow Control to set the speeds first, then disconnect the USB cable, then nuke Windows?

Information and knowledge will be very much appreciated.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Dave

Set it on a Windows Computer then move to your Non-Windows Computer.
Or you can connect the USB to a Windows Computer and do the same.

    I think this one AmazonBasics USB 2.0 Cable - A-Male to Mini-B - 3 Feet (0.9 Meters)
    or
AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to Micro B Cable (2 Pack), 6 feet, Black

I did this with my Corsair AIO Cooler on my Non-Windows Host.

    OK - I understand....

Set it on a Windows machine, then disconnect the USB from the MB, and keep the USB available to plug into a Windows machine.

I am going to try one change to your paradigm. I am going to give a VirtualBox VM access to my USB, - I have several Windows VM for clients I still support...Then see if I can see it/control it from there - and I'll report back here with my results.

[SOLVED] CLC 120 speed controls and Linux 2019/01/04 17:47:44 (permalink)
OK - I have it working - under Linux - of sorts.

In one of my Windows VM's, I changed the filter for Virtual Box (currently using version 6) to include a global filter to allow the VM access to any USB port.

I installed Flow Control 2.0.8 under Server 2019.

It installed perfectly, and it works perfectly!

One thing - while it reports the coolant temp correctly - obviously it cannot access the CPU temp in a VM - so the CPU temp field is blank. Coolant temp, Fan Speed, and pump speed are all accurately reported.

So I have control via the VM - and do not need Windows running on bare metal to control my fan/pump.

    THANK YOU!
