Have two boys. Built a machine a few years ago with a Pulse RX 580. Building machine for my youngset and have everything but a graphics card. How to explain to him that to get a 8GB card under $500 that I have to Join a website, make a post, get a ribbon, get a higher score, so when there is a snapshot I can have a slightly better chance in a possible lottery or queu where I may someday be notified that I can purchase the product. Good times. Good times.

Stay consistent with it too, it may take a while but if you enter every day you're going to win eventually. Sad this is the times that we're in but if you're devoted you'll definitely snag one!

You're going to love communism. Not to get political, but someone that moved out of one, this all sure brings back some bad memories. INBF this is nothing like communism. It is not as bad yet, but its heading that way. This is exactly how communism looks just with essential items. You ether need to be super lucky and win a lottery so to speak(shuffles and queues), or bribe someone to get what you need(scalping prices). I hope on all ends we return to normal.

So normal people buying all the GPU’s and then scalping them is just like Communism? No buddy that’s just plain old capitalism. Thanks for the laughs.

Normal people don't scalp. Slime bags scalp. Its only a small piece of the puzzle look at the big picture. I am talking about all the hoops a normal person needs to jump trough to get some product.

I finally got lucky at Microcenter a few weeks ago, but yeah... it's still pretty bad. If you have a microcenter in your area, they are your best bet to get a card since they restrict people to 1 video card per house hold every 30 days. I almost purchased a RX 6900XT the day I went in, but found out they had 3 different types of 3090's that day and I got to choose the one I wanted. Personally, if you can't find a RTX 3060 in a reasonable amount of time I'd suggest looking at a RX 6600XT.

There’s no such thing as normal. So a person is a slime bag for selling at a price the market demands but Newegg is ok to jack up prices? This is how capitalism works. Don’t like it, find someone to cry to it about. Stupid people sell at a MSRP that doesn’t exist, if the market wants to pay double for my card then blame the market, not the ones taking advantage of it and feeding their families

You seem to make a few connections when there are none, those things are not necessarily incompatible. Newegg or other retailers jacking up prices is a scummy move just like scalping, they can both be under that umbrella without a problem. The main difference between a retailer and a scalper is the value added/created. A retailer provides support and honors warranties on some of the products (I know they mostly get send to the manufacturer but the point is you don't have to deal with that and you almost instantly get a replacement or refund), offers deals, discounts, rebates, has more often than not a physical store, people to help you make a purchase/decision, web infrastructure (a site with filters and all so you can search products and compare) and often have a return policy (which is not the case for scalpers most of the time) and are bound by the law and consumer protection agencies. Scalpers provide none of these, they add no value, they create no jobs, they just act as middlemen, another set of hands to be changed. A small portion of the market pays yes, but out of need or stupidity, not want, make no mistake most of us despise scalpers. They are part of capitalism yes, opportunism is nothing new, and nobody ever argued capitalism is perfect. Nature is nice too yet it also contains parasites. I agree that stupidity lies with the one paying not the one setting the price, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. There is a reason why scalping other products is forbidden by law (such as event tickets), capitalism or not it's a toxic business model. Soon enough bots and such may be outlawed as well, the sooner the better imo. You want money? Go to work like the rest of us, create something useful and valuable to society. As a result of the inflated prices, scalping, and mining nvidia released GPUs for significant markups to fill the gaps and take that profit for themselves. As such the price for everyone was bumped up for the foreseeable future, what a nice precedent...

besides waiting or getting lucky - the only alternative is paying only a sight bit more and having an entire PC made from one of the system builder companies. They seem to have very little problem getting any of the tech you want.... such as ; https://www.xidax.com/productshttps://www.avadirect.com/ or whomever you feel has a good reputation.

It’s funny you think scalpers are the reason prices jumped. What a simple world you live in.

I mentioned 3 things, I didn't say scalping is THE reason but it's one of them and it is a significant part of the problem. I also didn't say scalpers but scalping, including retailers scalping. Funny how you only picked scalping btw. Curb your strawman buddy and gaslight someone else.

Explain that there is a pandemic on and that demand is at an all time high, those two factors make it next to impossible to get a card. Basically the same way you explain why you still can't find a PS5 in stock more then a year after release.

Explain to them that computer graphics cards are just like a very rare item(legendary, epic, elite, divine, unique, or whatever a game they know uses) in a video game. They are hard to get and take a long time to find and require some luck.
