when you enable raid ,is the 950 pro in the bios as boot option ?
try enable raid without extra HDD just the 950 pro and try to boot

also you can try ask here about your problem

950 m.2 always shows in the Bios, and no matter what settings i put my sata and achi and ide and all that at, it shows in the bios. Getting Windows to Install, or Boot the 950 is another story. If i make it so it shows my raid, it will not boot to the 950 m.2.

I can boot to the 950 m.2 and NOT see my raid in the bios or windows.
I can boot to my old sata iii drive and see my raid.
But i cannot see my Raid AND Boot to the 950 m.2. I can NOT figure out which are the correct settings?!?!?

I even plugged in my raid and reinstalled windows to the 950 m.2, (which "may" install a boot sector on my raid, or might not, but i took that risk in desperation) but upon rebooting during the windows 10 installation, it would not boot back to the 950 m.2 windows installation, and would not continue setting up windows.

I even tried DUET, which defeats the whole reason why i bought a Samsung 950 m.2, so i wouldn't have to do a USB style UEFI boot. I haven't spent a lot of time on DUET, but i tried their 2015 and 2017 versions, and 2017 leaves me stuck at a memory test and wont go past it, and the 2015 fails says it "cant find a EFI Boot something something... " after it goes past a loading screen.

I will get all through the bios postings, and past the sata ii raid screen, and then the part where it would ask you to boot from from a cd or dvd, it would just hang right there with a blinking cursor (underscore).... If I have the raid in sata 2 enabled it will NOT boot to the 950 pro. It just gets to the end of the bios and sits there. I have let it sit there for several minutes, several times, and even 30+ minutes a few times.

I have even tried reinstalling windows with the raid enabled and got it to install to the m.2, I was able to get it to start the windows installation dvd, and it would see the 950 pro PCIe m.2, and it installed to the 950nm.2, but upon reboot, during the windows install, it won't go anywhere... Like it acts like it has been, just doesn't want to boot to any disk (sata cables unplugged from the board, not just the power cords from the hdd's)

I put the sata iii ssd back in and change the boot order to boot to the sata iii ssd, and boom, im good to go. Only does this when I take out the ssd, and put in the 950 m.2.

At this point I'm willing to try Clover or Duet. Which I have tried and was unsuccessful with duet. And can't find a good x58 nvme m.2 tutorial, for x58 specifically, for Clover.

Anyone have a 950 m.2 with a raid on the sata II???? id love to compare bios setting....

have you tryed to boot from  sata iii ssd ,with raid enabled and samsung 950 pro installed ? when you go to windows do you see the nvme ssd ?
if yes i would try to clone the sata iii ssd to the samsung 950 pro, remove sata iii ssd and see if it boots ,no fresh installation of windows.

Windows has some strange issues when installing. Here's what I suggest:

1. Disconnect all drives except your system drive whatever it is
2. Install Windows
3. Make sure you can boot
4. Power down
5. Reconnect all other drives
6. Then see if you can still boot and all drives are recognized

That is where the problems starts. It wont boot to the 950 m.2 with the raid enabled on the onboard sata ii. It just sits there. After the bios, the very last part of the bios that you see before the windows logo comes up. it just sits there. I have let it sit for long time a few times with no luck. Tried many other setting in that area with no luck.

There has to be some conflict with sata ii raid and pcie booting... I have yet to see any forum or thread with anyone stating that they have this board or similar evga mobo and a 950 m.2 AND a raid off of the sata ii at the same time. One person did respond that they "enabled" raid on their sata ii controller and were still able to boot to the 950 m.2, BUT they did not have any disks installed on their sata ii. Not quite a match.

What is really buggin me is i cant get DUET figured out either, and Clover looks to have way way way too many configurations out there for me to even narrow down an applicable similar tutorial. I thought i would at least have Duet to fall back on, but i can't figure that out. Im wondering if that has anything to do with sata ii raid as well. Even thought it shouldnt, and that just means i cant figure out which version or tutorial of Duet to use, 2017 causes a memory test freeze, and 2015 leaves me on the no EFI found error of some kind.

It was stupid to buy the samsung 950 m.2 on ebay, now im stuck with it. It cost more than it should have it too... there are other similar size, and larger, nvme drives out there for similar price, newer and not used... Sorry, don't mean to start a rant fest.

Anybody got anything else? Thanks to those who have tried assisting thus far. I really do appreciate the help.

try clone the ssd drive to the 950 pro see if it boots,in case the fresh windows are missing a driver and dont boot.

I like to see polish Intel Processors.
Nicest image you can see...

X58 platform is not complete without EVGA X58 Classified 3way SLI or EVGA SR-2 and some Westmere.
You don't need to be ultra rich with newest hardware to enjoy. M.2 seriously improve work of older computers.

Ok, thank you for the suggestion. i went to try that all tonight, I'm still having no luck though...
I bought a nvme usb enclosure, so i could try different formats with the 950 m.2. (gpt, mbr, cloning, etc..)
I left the bios as is, with no changes, except making sure that my old ssd was set to boot first. Installed the m.2 completely blank, formatted as gpt in cmd, installed in in my #2 pci slot, and went to boot the pc, so i could clone my ssd (860 evo)to my 950 m.2 with the samsung data migration software to see if that would work. It will NOT boot into widows 10. NO matter what i did. I messed with the boot order, and the ahci and ide and raid settings, NOTHING.
It will get to the very last bit of the bios, where is says "Verifying DMI Pool Data" and just sits there.
I take out the 950 m.2, and put the 860 evo ssd back in, and boom, it boots. Again, the 950 pro m.2 is TOTALLY Blank. No partitions or anything. I even selcted the 860 e3vo ssd in the esc bios boot option during bio boot up, no luck.

I also noticed, that in my bios where i select which hard disk to boot to first, that no matter what settings that i have my bios on, that my sata ii raid drive disappears.  If i remove the 950 m.2, it comes back. The bios option to change to raid array settings will show up during bios booting, as long as i have raid enabled, but the raid 0 of all the drives that i made, that shows up in the list of drives that you can select in the bios to boot from is NOT there, if i have the PCIe 950 m.2 installed.
Remove the m.2, and poof, without changing anything, the raid array drive shows back up.

I cant boot into windows on the ssd when i have this m.2 in my machine, period. I even went and did esc during bios booting, and chose which drive to boot to, even though the ssd was listed at first, and NO OTHER ITEMS were selected to boot to, all other boot items were disabled, and it wouldn't boot to windows. The raid array drive wouldn't even show up on the esc boot menu as an option there either when i have the m.2 installed.

What the hell is the connection between the 2?

Anybody got any other ideas? I am on Bios 82. I really dont want to upgrade the bios, i hear there are issues with it, and aside from this m.2 issue, everything else runs great. But is there anything special in bios 83 that would change this? From the change log, i dont see that this would change with between bios 82/83 as far as raid and ssd's and all that. I dont recall the main changes in bios 83, but they weren't related to any of the applicable items.

I think i might try the 83 bios... That scares me about as much as buy a new pci raid card and trying your suggestions. Both are kind of a shot in the dark that may or may not work.

The thing that really gets me, is that if i EVER get this working, it will probably not even going to make that much of a real work difference (aside form benchmarking). Going from a 500gb 860 evo SSD sataiii, to a pcie Samsung 950 m.2... And all of this work for that.... i almost have to laugh...

I would like to confirm that running NVMe drives and booting windows on them is possible on X58 boards. Not SATA, not AHCI, but NVMe. Here is the know how:
