Hi all,

I have a brand new EVGA 2080ti Black and it has an unbelievable amount of coil whine. I have seen others on this forum also reporting similar problems to the the extent I am suffering. What is the best course of action ?

    Welcome to the Forum
Have you run a tool like heave for not-stop 24 Hours
Are you using One PCIe Power Cable to the Graphics Card or Two Separate PCIe Power Cables from the Power Supply to the Graphics Card?
What is the Make and Model + Age of your Power Supply?

    Hello!

The rig itself has been running games for prolonged periods of time since it was made a couple of days ago. The whining itself seems to have only just appears but its very very shrill. Its being powered by a Corsair SF750 from 1 cable splitting into 2 6 pins for the gpu.

Use Two Separate PCIe Power Cables from the Power Supply to the Graphics Card.
It comes with them so you really should use them on the RTX Graphics Cards or any Graphics Card that uses 2 Power Connectors.

Give it a few days and run Heaven overnight.

Oddly enough its less loud in Heaven than it is in say the menu screen of Wolfenstein 2/during gameplay or the splash screen when you stop the Heaven test. Is coil whine related to FPS in any way ?

Just to test I turned on Vsync in Wolfenstein. Capped at 145fps (I have a g-sync monitor) it still absolutely screeches, potentially worse than the videos already on this forum.

Aaand its obviously a defective card. I left it sat on the Wolfenstein 2 menu screen (which incidentally registers as running at 700fps by its internal fps counter) for about 15 minutes while I cooked with my wife in the room. The PC suddenly reboots out of nowhere, the PC has been rock solid up until this point with hours in Furmark to test temps, no overclocking at all.

It is Recommended to Not run Furmark.
If it is obviously a defective card then RMA it.
Start with Service Ticket to begin your RMA.

Make sure you sync the FPS to your monitors refresh rate for one.  Anything higher that that will only use more power and increase the coil whine.

Coil whine is the norm with these GPUs and many others in the past but a RMA could still fetch you some coil whine so it's not a guarantee fix.

Here's a great explanation of what coil whine is and why it happens.

I have had GPUs with reasonable coil whine before, im 37 with a long history of gaming PCs but this is definitly on a different scale. The mere fact that it crashes when put under a high load resulting in a louder whine, clearly audible 3 rooms away? That is more of a problem hence the RMA.

Bcavnaugh anything above 8000 is painful to me, I couldn't go much past 10000.

Seem to be an age thing, older ears on my end.
8000Hz I can hear but does not bother me or that is I have no Pain.

@ 13000 Hz my brain got rattled.  Is that normal?
