Hi,

I wanted to do a BIOS update from 1.02 to 2.06 since I had a couple of boot issues.
I did the Update with the windows updater from the official website and I got a "successful" from it and restarted my PC.

The only problem, now I can't boot anymore or get in the BIOS menu.

Looking at it I instantly get a "0d" (Reserved for future AMI SEC error codes) Post Code from the BIOS.
But OK, I just found out that there is another BIOS on it in case the other one gets corrupt. But I can't boot from the other one either. I get a "4f" (DXE IPL is started) after a few seconds from the second BIOS with 6 beeps (2x 3 short ones).

Motherboard is a Z170 Classified k (142-SS-E178-KR)

I assume you moved the BIOs switch correctly into the 2nd BIOs position. Recheck booting from both BIOs switch positions. If both switch positions result in a non boot situation try a BIOs reset. If the BIOs reset also fails to work in both BIOs switch positions contact EVGA to see of they can send another BIOs chip to you.

Even though I already tried resetting the BIOS both via the button and removing the batterie I tried it again but it didn't change anything.

I created a support ticket as well but wanted to see if someone maybe had an idea I didn't think of yet.

But I already thought that it will end in me having to change the BIOS chip.

Thanks for taking the time anyway

The BIOs chip for that motherboard is available also on auction sites if for any reason EVGA is out of stock.

See: AMI BIOS Recovery

Try that and see how it rolls, or not..Use 1.02 for now since it worked before..If the recovery works, flash both BIOS' to the same working version.

Just a thought here..Good luck.

I'll try it, thanks.
But the BIOS isn't even going that far that my monitors turn on.
So, it doesn't look like it does much, but I get another Post Code it is stuck at. This time it is just a "C", which isn't in the manual. I'll let it run for a while and see, who knows maybe it does something in the background.

I have an I7 6700k.

Format a USB flash drive to FAT32 with Rufus..Then delete anything Rufus may have put on the flash drive..Extract the 1.02 BIOS .zip file from EVGA Downloads..Rename the 1E178102.bin to AMIBOOT.ROM and put only that on the flash drive..Insert the flash drive and turn on your PC.

Don't know if that'll work for you or not, but definately worth a try.

Only other thing that I know of to try short of getting another BIOS chip is that if you have access to another PC with an EVGA mobo that has a replaceable BIOS chip would be to download 1.02 onto the other PC..Then hot-swap BIOS chips (put your BIOS chip into the other PC's board while it's running and in in Windows)..Then flash your BIOS chip in the other PC..Then shut down the other PC and put it's original BIOS chip back in it..Then put your BIOS chip back in your mobo.

Maybe your local PC repair shop can help you out with something real quick like.

Sadly I don't have another EVGA Mainboard and with the current COVID-19 situation around the world I don't think I'll be able to find a repair shop at the moment.

But support responded and it looks like they can send a new BIOS chip, I just hope that it works.

Edit: But thank you for all the help
