Decided to take a shot at a 3070. I see BB has implemented a type of waiting que that releases product periodically and gives you a chance to buy. To my delight, I waited and was eventually able to add a 3070 to my cart! I instantly checkout and I'm greeted by the "sorry we can't ship this product" message, so I go to look for store pickup, "sorry no stores within 3000 miles".....LOL?! I thought this was a one off but this happened to me 4 times with different cards in the cart. Since BB is the ONLY place you can get a FE card that makes it even more frustrating.

Happened to me too. When it goes grey on the product page try going straight to your cart. Happened a few times then I got it this morning. Same thing with the PS5 I actually kept trying and hours later I snagged one quick pre-order release day. Keep trying and good luck! Both will be played by this gamer so there's a win for the consumer scalping sucks.

Yep. Their supposed bot protection doesn't do anything.

Probably because those are actual people that bought one (well some of them). I managed to grab one from Best Buy this morning for my son's pc. Will be delivered tomorrow.

I've all but given up on BestBuy.  Don't even bother checking anymore.  Then again that goes for just about all e-tailers.

    Best Buy becomes a dump.
Empty shelves, limited choice, online crapy site, including commercials/adds for their own competitors.
I regret that spend there over 5K this year. Atmos Onkyo (didn't have Denon)reciever, klipsch atmos speakers (Not that I wanted) and LG 65 oled.
Just hate to order online large items (floor standing speakers, TV etc... )
Didn't have Lian Li cases, uni fans and other stuff...

Their purchase protection is just as terrible as Newegg's for launches. Newegg doesn't implement any of the good methods that would slow down people/bots significantly. Telling people they're limited to one of each model every 48 hours is basically the same thing as hiring a security guard that's 90 years old and can barely walk. They just want to make it look like they're trying. Whether their low effort is for shady reasons or not is anyone's guess.

The Magnolia BestBuy near me is pretty nice and I'm thankful its there.  It is always well stocked with PC parts, everything but cases.  I just don't think they know how to stop bots from buying all their online merchandise.
I wish they would switch these cards to in store only.  They would sell out immediately anyways.  I know I would line up for a few hours to get one.  Then once demand dies down switch over to selling online.  That just makes more sense to me.

Yeah I like Best Buy, but they are being really stupid about this.  They have brick and mortar stores.  The obvious and simple solution to make their real customers happy (as opposed to just scalpers) is to just sell cards in-store and not even take online orders.  It's not a perfect solution, but it would be better than what they're currently doing.

Edit: I've had some conversations with Best Buy employees, and they can't stand how this is being handled either.  They'd also like to get their hands on 3000 series gpu's and hate having to tell customers that all they can do is order them online since corporate decided not to allow any of them in their brick and mortar stores (at least in this part of the country).

OP you won the first round of RNG only to lose the second round.

Their new system is terrible.  They should at least let you breathe once it's in cart.  Just make it like concert tickets where you have 5 minutes to complete the purchase or something.

I always wondered why e-tailers just don't lock the item for like 2 minutes once it's in the cart. When the bots were rampant with the 3080 no one got one because literally no human had the ability to checkout faster than a bot, so if you were lucky enough to even be able to add to cart it was instantly ganked.

I've had the same issue ever since launch. I'll get a card in my cart right as they drop and then I'm stuck with the "not available in your area" and then just have a card sitting for 5-30 minutes until stock runs out and it drops from my cart.  Best Buy needs to fix this

    I scored a 3080 FE yesterday.

Unfortunately best buy's new process is not that clear and it seems lost of people were confused as to how it works.  You actually need to hit the add to cart button twice.  Once and it will turn gray and says please wait.  It will turn yellow after a brief period, like 2 minutes, and then it will add to cart on the 2nd press.

The theory I heard is that bots will continue to refresh until a card is added to the cart.  That will be impossible with this new process as you need to wait out the first add to cart.  Essentially, if you keep F5ing, you'll never get out of the please wait phase.  That said, I have no idea how bots actually work, so take the scuttlebutt with a grain of salt.

Not the most elegant solution, but based on some of the stuff I'm seeing on message boards, more people got cards than usual.

Unfortunately even if you manually add to cart on the 2nd press it's still not guaranteed to be in your cart.  I lost at least 10 through the checkout process after that.

I was able to secure an order on Best Buy this morning.

I don't think i had to press the button twice. I kept refreshing, when the button turned blue i clicked it and it had the waiting circle animation. After 30-45 seconds i could go into my order. It asked me to log in to claim the free item, i tried for 5 seconds and it didnt work so i removed the free item out and completed the order ASAP. It said my order was completed and sent me a confirmation to my email to be delivered 11/5/2020.

Even worse, I kept hitting the add to cart button, only to get the "due to high demand, we require a second step" message at the top, but it did nothing else and was I getting pissed off at the lack of an explantion. Then it hit me to try another browser, and that's when I found out... their damn wait a few minutes to hit the add to cart button again code DOESN'T WORK IN FIREFOX!!!!!! WHAT. THE. F@#$!!! When I switched to Edge (which really pained me to do...) and my phone, it properly changed the button to the gray "please wait" with the pop-up bubble explaining how the process works. Neither of those displayed at all in Firefox. So I lost the first five minutes due to a broken website code. After I figured that out, I was able to get it into my cart several times, but each time upon checkout it would say it's no longer available for shipping, or the page would simply freeze up and not load, and then it would simply be gone from my cart when I refreshed.

I try to avoid Best Buy since I have never had good luck with them on release day.

Wow that is terrible.  I think best buy is doing their best, but sounds like this needed a little more testing.  Like the idea, but needed better implementation.

I will say that I have way more respect for Amazon.  Apparently having a smooth online experience is not easy to do, because everyone seems to fail at it.  Not sure if they're doing anything about bots, but at least I don't see the website breaking.

They should really reserve the card once it's in your cart for at least a few minutes. It's super frustrating getting a card in your cart multiple times only for it to already be sold with dumb errors saying like it can't ship to your address & try a different method with the only method available as shipping.
