I don't see this getting better right away. I'd say we will be lucky to be back to normal by next year. Miners may call down, but scalpers won't and silicone shortages are real.

It doesn't matter how "perfect" the bot is if the website is well made, you can't use a bot for everything...

Frankly, the best way to combat them has nothing to do with the end user. It has to do with retailers imposing things like queues, and making scalping illegal.

Only way to combat scalpers is to not buy from them, but because mining profits are so high, miners are happy to pay their high prices right now.

There is no way I'd pay 2x the price of a card, I'm not that desperate but I think stores should have a way to combat bots. Queue systems, one per purchase but that'd never happen because at the end of the day, they're making money.

I'm paying attention to the auto industry. Once car prices start going back down, GPU market should move in tow. The supply shortage is affecting both industries in tandem.

I do wish there was a deposit or full purchase required for the queue. I feel like there's a lot of entries that we are all waiting on, that will inevitably not result in any card purchase.

That is one thing I liked about ShopBLT. You give all of your payment info and you get queued. They don't actually charge until it gets in stock.

Yeah at the core it's a supply and demand problem. The complexity of modern GPUs means that it's difficult to rapidly increase production to meet demand. It does make me wonder what would happen if you let the companies price the products appropriate to the demand, essentially scalping their own products. It would get rid of all the 3rd party scalpers, but then only the very wealthy would be able to afford them. Obviously not a morally tenable position, but it would get rid of the scalping, at least in a manner of speaking. 100% guarantee that the only people that would purchase them would be the user. Not advocating for that version of reality, but it does make we wonder... in an alternative history way.

I know it makes people unhappy but the higher MSRP is one of the ways to do it. This is fundamentally a microeconomics problem. End market prices are already so high above the new MSRP that I don't think we'll see a bump in those. What we will see is that the margins for scalpers are going to go down. Scalpers will still be involved, but their activity will decrease as margins decrease. This is honestly the move retails should've made a while ago. From an individual consumer perspective, $1200 seems like "too much" but I mean basic microeconomics is dictating that the value of the card is way above $1200 if it's sold out even at $2000. Personally I can afford the more expensive card but I don't want to give that extra money to scalpers. So I'm fine with Nvidia and others raising the MSRP. I am willing to pay extra for it but I want those extra margins going to the actual companies.

Best way to combat scalpers is to decrease demand. Best way to decrease demand is to undo all the marketing brainwashing that's been done to convince everyone that you NEED to upgrade your GPU every 2 years. Also crypto mining, but there is nothing much we can do about that at our level. Only governments have the power to ban or otherwise restrict crypto mining. So there you go.

The best system(in my opinion) any company can place to combat it is for a shuffle system. Everyone gets a fair shot.

Responding to a prior post... "just don't upgrade every 2 years" isn't a solution. I see a major reason why 3000 series cards are in such high demand is because the 2000 series was such a disappointing "upgrade" over the 1000 series cards, and for much more money. Now there are people from both generations of GPU that see tangible increases in performance and want to take advantage of it, but nvidia did a really bad job forecasting demand because they only looked at 2000 series adoption rates.

I agree. I want to upgrade from 1080. It was fine but I upgraded my monitor from 1080p@60 to 1440p@144 and 1080 is not enough anymore. I bought 1080 when 2000 series arrived. But i was thinking that 2000 series was too expensive. I was wrong... Nobody knew what will happen in the future.
