Hello folks, I caught the wife in a good mood and I'm in the clear to replace my 750Ti FTW (or 950 SSC) for something more powerful.

I'm looking for the best folder for under $200 (not counting shipping).  I saw the 970's could get 300k plus, but I don't know if that's the 'best' option.

A 1060 is about $200 and can get ~370,000+ PPD
And it sips power at only 120w.

chap34 is right on point - I have a 1060 with the twin ACX 3 fans and I get roughly the same ppd and paid the same price -  right at $200.00

Just used some evga bucks on a 1060 3gb w/ACX.  I agree with Robby and chap, good ppd and low power draw.

Here is a nice spreadsheet for those trying to maximize their points per $ and/or points per watt. I was going to upgrade my 2nd folding rig to a 1060 3g until I found a killer deal on a used 1080 FTW back when iCX upgrade program was eligible for signup.

Based on that spreadsheet, should you just go for FE and slap a hybrid on it? The other models just suck more power but don't really put out(yes they have better cooling)

The watt values appear to be max power draw and not actual power draw while folding.  I take this chart with multiple grains of salt.

Power (Cost) to PPD; Adding a GTX 1070 and removing your 970's may be better.
Myself I do not mix GPU type. Pascal with Pascal and Maxell with Maxwell and so on.

As Bcav says, the 1070 will not only produce around the same as the 2 970s together it (1070) would be more cost effective power wise, less noise and heat too.

To answer your question, yes it can be done but it is a pain in the neck to get windows to cooperate. Especially if your using Win10, I did it with 1 1060 and some 970's and it was frustrating.

Is that folding only, or are you using computer for other things as well???  I was under the impression that even a vanilla 1060 3GB should get slightly better (or at least equal) folding performance vs a GTX 970.

Is that folding only, or are you using computer for other things as well???  I was under the impression that even a vanilla 1060 3GB should get slightly better (or at least equal) folding performance vs a GTX 970.

That's my 970FTW with regular daily use including about 20 - 24 hours across those 5 days of streaming a mix of 480p, 720p, & 1080p movies & video content.

Just wanted to give a quick update, after about a week now I'm running an average of 318K PPD, appreciate the recommendation everyone!

My 1060 average is 290 and peeks at 312 but this is installed on a P4 Server.
For a rig that is Not running 7x24 a single GTX 1070 would be best.
Also task less power and is Pascal GPU a better GPU to Fold on ATM.
But for Under $200 then you only have a Single GTX 1060 3GB card to pick from.

With my EVGA GTX 1060 3GB Card I get between 260K and 310K PPD under Driver 373.06.
    Active ATM My HFM

I'm getting a small boost from the 750 Ti.

What are you getting ONLY on your GTX 1060?

Mine's been all over the map, right now 256K and sometimes up to 345K.
