I had a 2080ti that a fan went bad on.   Locally someone said they could fix it for about $100. Another friend said if I purchased the fan I he would replace it for me free of charge.'

"Luckily" my card was still under warranty.  I setup the advanced RMA and when I opened the box I did not have a 2080ti.

I was sent a 3070, a card that while close in performance, does not match a 2080ti.  I was told the 2080ti's were out of stock.  Eventually I was told when they come in I could swap out for that.
2080ti came in and I had some health issues and was not around a computer.   When i got back the cards were no longer available

EVGA's most recent response is "Here is our internal testing that shows that the 3070 is only 100 points away which is also the closest performance equivalent, there is no negotiation on  what the replacement will be if we do not have a 2080ti on hand when your card comes in for replacement.
Regards,
EVGA "

The main point of this is to warn other users to find out what product EVGA is going to send you BEFORE proceeding with the process.   My 2080 ti was a 2 fan card because that was all that would fit in my case at the time.  I have since upgraded so luckily the 3 fan 3070 fits.  I imagine other users may receive a card that does not fit for them as well.   If you find out EVGA plans to send you something of lesser performance, than you can look at options to have your current part repaired.

I'm sad I have to even make this post.  Times are tough right now for everyone and EVGA could have done better for their customer.

Shouldn't matter it should be a replacement with same or better card.  Not a lesser (though really the stats are almost the same with 3070 better in some areas and 2080 ti in others).  The 3080 is the replacement of the 2080 ti so that really should of been what he got or at least a 3070 ti.   Though I get his main thing, the size of cards. I have an alienware fraphics amplifier and if the 2060s in it ever goes out I won't be able to fit any three fan cards in it, just 2 fans and would be screwed.

The 3070 should have the warranty got the original card carry over to it. So depending on how much time was left you should be good but I do admit it does suck to have a second card die. At that point I probably would be looking at replacing my power strip or any other causes that might have caused a problem.

I thought i read that any replacement sent out was no longer covered. Even if that's not the case I think i'm now outside the window. I felt lucky that my 2080ti was still under warranty.

The 2080ti I RMA'd didnt fry. It had two fans and one was only hitting about 50 rpm( i think) and was rattling, that was the cause for the RMA.  I was told during EVGAs testing it failed due to RTX issues, which was odd...I had been playing Control and Cyberpunk, seemingly, without issues before I noticed the fan problem.  But that doesn't mean there wasnt an underlying other issue that I wasnt aware of
