I recently got ViewSonic XG2401 and the monitor sometimes loses signal or gets pixelated when alt tabbing a bunch of times when in game. I tried playing with almost every settings from the OSD, haven't tried different cable thoe. The most interesting part is that everything gets pixelated, but not the monitor's OSD. The pixelation can happen few times a day or once a week I dont know whats causing it. I was using display port till now(switched to HDMI to see if that will help), I'm not sure if it's bad display port on the monitor or the GPU. I never had those problems with my previous monitor, but I was using HDMI. The GPU is GTX 1080 FE.

If the problem doesn't occur again, then you know that the problem is related to display port. If you confirm that you are having only display port problems, usually a quality VESA certified display port cable solves it.

How a new cable will solve the problem ? And how to know if its bad display port on the monitor or GPU ?

Let's do this one step at a time, ok? After testing for a sufficient amount of time, let us know whether switching to HDMI caused the problem to no longer happen.

Alrighty. Forgot to mention that some other guy in another forum told me that if the monitor's OSD is not pixelated and everything behind is(the desktop) then my problem is the GPU.

well that guy would be wrong. if you have a bad input on the monitor then the OSD wont tell you a thing except that the monitor is powered on and has basic function, it wont tell anything about the input connector board. try a different cable, one that is clearly marked as certified. i had a DP issue, tried everything, different monitors that were known good, new cables, gpu in multiple systems and it turned out to be a MB issue with the bios ( which ASRock is aware of but has not fixed BTW ). short of it is that its not always a easy answer to a problem.

Your 1080 FE has more than one DP port - Did you test all 3 of them ? Does your monitor have more than one DP input ? Only use certified DP cable --> save you a world of pain --> DisplayPort Database Accell cable (3 meter) is what I use for 4K monitor - and its less than $15 - Amazon link

Im getting a DP to HDMI adapter to see if the problem is from the GPU.

Instead of doing that, I recommend that you buy a quality DP cable such as Cool GTX recommended. DP issues with these cards have almost always proven to be caused by uncertified/cheap DP cables.

You are right I have 2 more DPs on the GPU. In my country all DP cables are very limited.

A little update. The GPU is fine, the monitor or the cable is bad.
