Hi, you released bios updates for regular 2080's video cards with an increased power target, why can't you do the same for 2080 SUPER cards? I have a 2080 SUPER XC ultra gaming, and the max power target increase is 116%. Please release bioses for the SUPER cards with increased power targets like you did the regular 2080's.
Thanks!

People keep asking, but EVGA keeps not responding.

I wouldn't be surprised if NVIDIA is preventing such a BIOS update, because it would create too little performance delineation between 2070 Supers and 2080s or 2080 Supers and 2080 Tis.

The FTW3 cards have a high power bios, in fact the 2080 Super FTW3 has higher power limits than the reference pcb EVGA A-chip 2080 Ti 130% bios.

The 2080S FTW3 Hybrid for under $800 is a REALLY good deal. Throw an additional fan ($15) on the cooler for push pull.  With proper radiator positioning and a good OC it will be pretty close to a non-A chip 2080 Ti at stock clocks on air (~$1000).

They released increased power target bios updates for all the regulars 2080's even the XC's (except for the black, that isn't an A-chip), not only the FTW3's. They should do the same for the 2080 SUPER's, I hope EVGA Listens!

+1... I put a request in to EVGA for this about a week or 2 back.  No response yet other then what looks like an auto reply from them.  Not holding my breath, but you never know.

I just did too, lets hope they listen, like they did with the 2080 lineup.

This is something our PM team could address but as far as I am aware we do not have an optional BIOS with a different power target available. As there are a lot of moving parts about releasing such a BIOS, this could be something in the works or simply not going to be available unfortunately. We usually will post a thread in this forum in the event we decide to release one. Obviously, with the previous release this was not immediate but the only thing we can recommend is to stay tuned.

This is because the FTW3 is a custom EVGA PCB we manufactured.

I hope you can pass that up. Even the regular PCB 2080's (like xc, xc ultra etc) got a higher power target bios updates. Thanks!

I know that too.  I think that people are looking for an upgrade because the 2080S and 2070S reference PCB cards seem to use the same or similar PCB as the a-chip 2080 that got the 130% bios.

Personally, given the tiny price difference, I think people are insane to buy anything but the FTW3 Supers.  The power limit difference is pretty huge.  I mean the 2070S FTW3 has the same power limit as a normal EVGA 130% A-chip 2080Ti and the 2080S FTW3 is even higher.  That is flat out crazy.  Maybe the bin on the chips is really tight and most of them can't get much out of all that extra power.

As an NVIDIA partner, there are certain things EVGA cannot do on certain models without first getting NVIDIA's permission.  As stated by EVGATech_DanielM "As there are a lot of moving parts about releasing such a BIOS, this could be something in the works or simply not going to be available unfortunately."

It doesn't matter what EVGA was able to do with past models.  Every applicable model requires individual approval from NVIDIA.  As it may cut into the market of other models, it may not be allowed.

I suppose that's a somewhat valid reason but you can see why people are asking for it.  My 2080Ti with a good overclock still does at least 25% better than a 2080S with a good overclock, that's pretty similar to the spread out of the box.

I think just because one GPU has a higher PT, doesn't necessarily means it equates to more performance from a higher SKU with a lower PT.  I think EVGA needs to fix that on the next go around because these different PT percentages on different SKUs caused so much confusion and made people think they were getting less for what they payed for when they saw a higher PT on another lower SKU.

So the FTW3 2080S comes with a higher limit vBIOS, and you want it? The solution here seems very easy.

I'll take a guess that a lot of people when they bought the cards didn't understand the importance of power limit for overclocking.

If it makes anyone feel better, the normal 2080S has the same max power limit in watts (292w) as the normal a-chip 2080 cards, it's just the 2080S has a higher 100% power limit of 250w vs. 225w.  So maybe that's why they aren't increasing it.

From my understanding of the Gamers Nexus strip down of the 2070 Super XC Ultra.

  • Pre-binned GPU
  • Custom PCB
  • Custom Power Delivery

So why the hell is this thing power limited like hell? Cheaper other Partner cards are not, and they're faster.  Or was GN sent a "reviewers" sample that's not actual the correct specs just for you to drive some sales with big markups?

What's the crack?  Do I really have to send mine back and get a CHEAPER, FASTER Card because EVGA are being tight?

What is the point of going to all this effort to make a potato?

Also as a side note:
The 3 slot gpu has very limited air vents on the back plate... vents that are covered by my case's slats between PCI-E devices, which is a pretty terrible design.

Just search TechPowerUp and see of there's a better bios .
There is a guide here somewhere on how to flash it .
Or just send it back and then they can send it back to you telling you there's nothing wrong .

Display Driver Version:  442.19
BIOS Version: 90.04.76.00.FA
Firmware: 49.49.76

It's the only BIOS registered on their website:
techpowerup com/vgabios/?manufacturer=EVGA&model=RTX+2070+Super

I know there is an older version somewhere but it's not there.  Date wise they're about a month before the 2070 Super release.

Not to step on your toes spit as you're trying to help, but you're a exotic cooling OCer.  Your first advise shouldn't be to flash their BIOS on the GPU to make it faster because if he bricks it, he's out of luck since it voids his warranty.  Its not the first thing you tell the average joe.  I think he's upset and doesn't like the way it OCs past his guaranteed advertised speeds.

OP, it's silicon lottery and cooling environment along with NVIDIA boost at play here.  Too many variables and it's not just plug and play in hopes you have some of the best OCing 2070 SUPER in existance.  Some will get lucky with them.

I was searching about this topic because I had the highest 3dmark firestrike for my system configuration, but someone with a Gigabyte/Aorus card with a higher power limit(300 watts and a higher power limit increase%) recently beat my score.  I'm at the power limit and when Precision X shows that the card hits the power limit, the GPU clocks drop.  That's preventing me form getting a higher firestrike score to beat them.

I had GTX 1080 ti FTW3 cards that were replaced udner warranty and EVGA sent me regular reference PCB RTX 2080 Supers as a replacement and not FTW3 models.  So I'm at the limit of what the cards can do due to the power limit.  I guess EVGA will settle for second best reference PCB power limits and let Gigabyte beat them.

Just flash this vbios to your card to get a 350w power limit. You can use nvflash to perform the flash. Your max power limit will be increased to 351w.

Scared about bricking your card? No problem. You can recover by doing this if you brick your card.

Thanks!  It would be nice if EVGA did release something official since they did it for other RTX cards.
