Upgraded to Z370 and i7 8700K the other day. Also, had to purchase new Windows 10 as prior was free upgrade from Win 8. Mobo came with 1.07 driver, updated to current 1.09 via thumb drive. SSD (Samsung EVO 840 250Gb), which contains dnld'd new copy of Windows 10 is only seen using Legacy. Switching to EUFI boot and I lose it and reboot back to BIOS. Please help.
New poster with enough PC skills to get myself in to trouble. My apologies if I am leaving out pertinent information.

Actually I don't think you needed to buy Win10...a friend of mine just upgraded an old X58 motherboard/CPU to a Ryzen 2700X and used his win7 key to activate windows 10 upgrade...he said it worked...

As for your problem, you probably didn't install it UEFI..Systems that support UEFI require that boot partition must reside on a GPT disk.....as far as I recall

Re: BIOS does not recognize SSD for boot 2018/12/03 07:34:31 (permalink)
Drive is NTFS and worked fine in prior (ASUS) board. I had 2 other SSD (Samsung EVO 850 250 GB & Samsung EVO 860 1TB) in when I installed the new Win10 copy. I had heard that some small files could have been placed on other drives if more than one was installed at time OS install. So, I unplugged those drives and Windows still operates normally with no recommended updates.

As far as purchasing another copy of Windows, my prior had already been upgraded (from Windows 8) and it was not allowing me to install via old key.

Also, to be noted, I hear 5, possibly 6 quick beeps in one tone, then a final beep after small hesitation in a higher pitched beep on boot

Also, did not initially utilize provided EVGA Driver CD. However, to rule any potential driver related issues, I just installed an old CD drive and downloaded all essential drivers (chip set, audio, graphics, etc.). Problem still persists.

As for the beeping, still hearing 5 quick beeps on boot. Removing the thumb drive containing the BIOS update cleared the 6th beep (or so I believe).

try reseating the processor? Did you insert it correctly?

..as I recall (and I could be wrong here), 5 beeps on an eVGA board is processor error?

Forgive any ignorance, however, if the CPU was not seated correctly, would it not also work in Legacy boot? I would think it would give an error code on the LCD panel and return to BIOS. Also, only one way to seat an Intel chip as far as I know. Again, in Legacy, all works as intended.  Thanks for your persistence.

LCD displays 28, however, this starts as 32, then slowly drops to 28. I read somewhere else that this was temp.

You're correct....I'd like to be able to sit in front of it...I've never been good at doing things long distance like this....

Must install OS in UEFI for it to work

Only install the Boot Drive until your OS is installed

Did you follow these directions ?

Manual page 51  --->  HDD/SSD/M.2 Setup

Page 124 ---> SSD / HDD is not detected

Device has power, is seen in BIOS, but cannot be found in Windows:
Lastly, if the device was just added, other troubleshooting in this section has been done,
the device has power and shows up in the BIOS, but is not seen in Windows, then it
may be that the drive needs to be initialized, partitioned, and formatted in Windows.

Re: BIOS does not recognize SSD for boot 2018/12/03 08:40:20 (permalink)
Yes. In BOOT tab, when I select EUFI for Boot Mode Select, I lose "Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities" which is where page 51 states that I should be able to locate the drive from. Only when I select Legacy, do I see the HDD BBS Priorities and my SSD from the drop down option. I have tried different ports, sata and power cables with no change.

Can you convert a NTFS drive to GPT without formatting and losing all info? More importantly my OS. *I purchased a digital copy (vs thumb drive copy).

I believe your going to have to do a Full reinstall to get EUFI working correctly

Drive with no OS are not visible at first -- comes to mind - not 100% sure ....

You can Make your Own Thumb drive installer ... let me look for a good link

Microsoft site - Create Windows 10 installation media   ---> Download Windows 10

install Windows 10 on new ssd Hard Drive

I have done it on two different machines successfully. Not only do you need to convert it to GPT (from MBR), you'll also need a small UEFI system partition. Here's a good article on Windows Central to help guide you through the process.

The UEFI stuff post above is probably spot on but I do have a question, which port is your SATA drive plugged into?

The SSD with OS is in Port 0. The other 2 mentioned were in 1 & 2. I have since removed them until I can resolve.

Thanks! Going to see if I can utilize this method for conversion before I perform a complete format/conversion.

Just completed this task per the Windows Central article you provided and your suggestion and it worked!  :)   I am now booting via EUFI vs Legacy. Thank you so much. *One more question, do you know if I can apply the same Command Prompt process to convert my other 2 non-system SDD's from MBR to GPT? I.e., would command prompt offer me a drive choice for the [mbr2gpt / convert] command if I have multiple drives?
