I am attempting to keep a running change-log of the BIOS updates for the X58 3X-SLI Classified Limited Edition (part number 141-BL-E759-XX). This should be useful for people who miss an update. It is highly recommended to quickly browse the "discussion" link for each BIOS before installing it.

Most recent update is on top. The discussion link will send you to the relevant forum topic discussing that particular BIOS revision (which will also give you links to all available download types), and the download link will give you a direct link to the relevant .bin file.
Unless otherwise noted, all changes are cumulative (so each latest BIOS will contain the changes of all the previous BIOSes)

  • Fixes known issues with VT (Virtualization Technology), VT should now be properly enabled or disabled and also should not need to double-pump boot on a warm reboot.
  • Fix spacing on Intel RAID Rom Text (making it a little bit easier to read the POST screen)

  • Fix cold reset when VT is enabled (removes the clock reset causing the “double-pump boot”, but be advised VT may not work correctly without a cold reboot.) Note: many users seem to have problems with VT not working correctly with this BIOS.
  • Adds screen clear before invoking option rom (Fix the screen read-out which was dificult to read/garbled in the previous BIOS)
  • Updates Intel RAID Rom to 10.5.0.744 (NOTE: The Acceleration feature is not usable on X58 chipset, it's a feature that will be available on future boards such as the X68). EVGA had to have this RAID ROM customized to fit into the Award BIOS
  • Updates CPU Microcode to version 13
  • Updates Intel Phoenix AHCI Rom to 1.07.10
  • Updates JMicron ROM to 1.07.25
  • Updates Realtek PXE Rom to 2.39
  • This BIOS will have problems reading drive partitions large than 2 Terabytes

Updated to include the new S22D BIOS.

I also added the notes from shamino and dejanh, hopefully I reported them correctly.  If someone could confirm that the changes are correct, especially for the poll clockgen/qpi ratio sequences for S22A and S22D it would be appreciated.

I can pretty much safely confirm these.  When testing the BIOS we found that reversing the sequence back to the one prior to S22A did not do anything to solve the S3 problem after which point we successfully tested the clock-range changes for S3.

I also added a note to the 43 & 44 BIOS that 32nm Xeons might NOT work... let me know if the official word on this changes, and I'll change the notes.

p.s.  anybody know what the plural of BIOS is?  BIOSs?  BIOS's?  BIOSes?

I would assume it's the same as the previous BIOS, in that 32nm 6-core XEONs aren't officially supported.  You might be better off asking that question in the discussion thread.

Regarding the Turbo Performance Option: Defualts to off.  This tweek is intended for 32nm Gulftown core processors; per shamino:"enabling it for bloomfield should yield no benefit and may have the 2:8 ratio limitation with bloomfield"

-added the above notes to the 4x BIOS to hopefully avoid some of the confusion.

I've got S22D listed, I'm pretty sure that's the equivalent for the 759 motherboard.  I'm not sure I have the patience to go back and do listings for all the different motherboards.

Not to overrun JacobF's thread but maybe add the .iso download files along with the bin's here in your thread? Just an idea.

The other download types (.iso or whatever) can be had by following the discussion link.  With these new forums it's becoming increasingly difficult to edit the post, so adding more links would be difficult.

To rant a little bit... copy/paste doesn't really work, so each time I edit the post to add a new BIOS I risk losing the whole thing.  I've already talked to Shane (the webmaster) and other members about better solutions to the problem, but we haven't come up with any (good) solutions.

Had to re-type the whole thing, but I think it's a little better now.  Added references to which BIOS is the recommended one depending on whether one uses a Quad-Core or Six-Core CPU... let me know what you guys think.

Hopefully adding future BIOS updates to the list will be easier from now on... *knocks on wood*

Updated to include further notes for the 56 BIOS based on info from shamino et. al.  -
  1. The CPU microcode update was based on a critical patch from intel to solve problems with lock-ups and blue screens with 6-core/32nm CPUs.
  2. The Extreme Cooling adjustment was related to CPU PLL voltage when the X-Cool jumper is moved
  3. Added an update that wasn't listed in the official release notes - For 6 Core CPUs, BIOS allows reduction to 4 or 5 cores.

Just a question, on whether one uses a Quad-Core or Six-Core CPU bios, what is that based on?

Experience? member feedback? OC potential?

I have an i7 920.

EDIT: How to i change my name ? Whats with it being my email

It's based mostly on member feedback as regards to overall stability, ease of use, and functional features.

Updated to include BIOS 59.   So far it looks like the only difference from BIOS 56 is a possible fix for a specific RAID issue.

Updated to include BIOS 64, should be a good one to play with for owners of 32nm CPUs

They have got to be kidding me about the timing of this beta BIOS 70 release.

I just spent the last two hours thoroughly troubleshooting my system just to get BIOS 64 installed.
