quadlatte i own many systems including a x58 e760 and guess what, im not freaking out over a 10yr old system not getting a bios update, yes it has a lifetime warranty but that is for the board against defects, not the cpu having a underlying problem. i personally feel this whole thing is overblown, just as some of the ones in the past were, the chances of the average joe blow user being effected or targeted are pretty small. the one upside to the hype is every AV vendor will be scrambling to push updates to block this as well as software so the chances just will get smaller.
Really? That's so helpful to my situation. I hope a pipe breaks above your primary rig and its goes up in smoke bro, then you can use your x58 You can just punch in your passwords and credit card numbers and feel great about it! -feels so good doesn't it, knowing that there is nothing to worry about- Thanks for posting

maniacvvv My CPU is on Intel's affected list and the base microcode update is already available.
Where are you getting this information? Reports I've seen have stated Intel hasn't even finished releasing microcode updates for CPUs within the last five years, and last I checked yours is older.

" Intel hasn't even finished releasing microcode updates for CPUs within the last five years" This is cover for the OEM's from their chipset partner Intel, who -both- would rather have you run out and pay them more money for replacement of their defective parts than a free repair.Wait the few short weeks until the threats become active in the wild and the sad examples begin to get posted up, then panic will set in hard.... *(the lawsuits have already started) The "true" delays are at the OEM level, according to my source at Intel the base microcode patches are completely done and available to OEM's (due to Intel's good legal dept) The REAL problem is that every single MB OEM uses different hardware design/components, so each BIOS update is -very very specific- to that exact MB/Chipset And here we come to the heart of the matter--->There are only limited BIOS programing resources (talent) and money at the OEM's (EVGA, ASUS, MSI..etc) So where as a OEM do you direct your resources? To your near future and current MB releases is the top priority and then down the line as cheaply as you can... --->and try not to get hit in the ass by a lawsuit from the paying customers you screw over This is a OEM management nightmare and one which will play out unpredictably with winners and losers. Many OEM's have stated different year numbers for support, while still others have been talking about 2 years... Alot are simply saying nothing except for current product --->Some scumbags are even going so far as to exclude entire lines of chipsets no matter when purchased!!... Basically years of warranty appears to be what we are seeing so far for the most part, with exceptions. Some companies will step up, others will get by and some will leave their customers in the dirt, it's a business after all is said and done. There is potential here for class action to change the faces of the OEM's we see today, as the margins in high end MB's (not patched) could prove very expensive indeed. This is all about the availability of programming talent and the costs in time and money to propagate BIOS/Microcode fixes down the product lines. And of course the chance to "make" money from users forced (by lack of support) to replace otherwise working systems by delaying what you think you can... And this is why I am concerned. If its not a "defect" (and of course it is) then why are Intel and OEM's patching MB's for it.... And why should I, as a customer with a lifetime warranty not receive the same "fix" as everyone else? Because its older? I am still under warranty. I think I saw you running a 4790k... how would you like it if you didn't get patched and had to throw out your MB/CPU/RAM? Well that's where I'm at. So you will understand my concern and frustration since there is nothing wrong with my system that a BIOS update won't fix.

No update for Z68 FTW? i7 2600K is still kicking and playing all +60fps with a GTX1070.

Yes well conspiracy theories aside, Intel's CEO Brian Krzanich stated during the CES keynote yesterday that microcode updates for 5 year old and newer CPUs won't be complete until the end of January. Which means your i7 920 can't see an update for two months at the earliest. Considering his statements (and other statements made by Intel elsewhere) are legally binding, I tend to believe him over any sources you claim in the industry.

You can believe whatever you wish, and public "statements" are of course not legally binding unless made under oath or written down in a contract. What matters is that when the lawsuits start, there are facts that can protect Intel from liability exposure. -->They are of course the only true deep pocket in all of this

This is our current schedule for BIOS updates related to these vulnerabilities: By end of this week*: Z170, Z270, Z370, X99, X299, Laptops. Within 1-2 weeks*: X79, W888, Z87, Z97. *Please note that this date is projected, contingent on receiving source code from Intel, and final testing may push the dates back temporarily. At this point, we do not have source code from Intel to update X58, P67, or Z77 motherboards. When/if that becomes available, I'll provide an update.

Tweaked Lee, Can you shed any light on the rumors that this patch will result in approximately 30% performance degradation? I've only seen what others have said and reported online. Our motherboard team is in the process of compatibility/bug testing for these updates, so I don't believe we've done any real performance testing. It seems as if that 30% number floating around is contingent on a number of factors, including type of applications, system configurations, and software configurations. However, that's just speculation on my part. Once these updates are available, perhaps a few members might do their own testing to see if they are affected. I'm sure the Mods can throw a few BR's their way.

I need a BIOS update for my primary system very badly, and there is no where else to go for this issue except EVGA These users who -DO NOT- have this issue feel like they can post whatever they want... Why should I have to put up with this type of trolling on a simple request for a serious known issue?

I have cleaned up this this thread. You've got a really decent update by the EVGA tech so let's leave it at that. Any further bickering and this thread will be locked.

I expected better The good old boys appear to own the EVGA forums.... Perhaps the mods need to think about the choices they have made about who is welcome on these forums. Running off the the talented good guys in favor of a few mediocre trolls is retarded. Thats -why- this place is NOT what it once was. Lock this thread, or not...
