Qualcomm and Apple announced a surprise settlement to all ongoing lawsuits, putting an end to the legal disputes filed across the world.
The whole situation kicked off in 2017, after Apple launched a $1 billion lawsuit against Qualcomm over what was deemed to be an unfair licensing contract. The FTC also began investigating Qualcomm for anti-competitive business practises at around the same time. Apple has since switched to Intel for its iPhone modem needs, but Qualcomm has countered that by claiming that Apple gave Intel access to confidential information.

Qualcomm fired back on plenty of occasions, filing lawsuits against companies within Apple’s supply chain, tying Apple’s legal team up with various patent disputes and even calling for trading bans on iPhones in certain countries, including the US and China.

Apple confirmed that its agreement with Qualcomm “ends all ongoing litigation, including with Apple’s contract manufacturers”. As part of the settlement, Apple and Qualcomm have reached “a global patent license agreement and a chipset supply agreement”.

As mentioned in another article this agreement caused Intel to stop it's 5G modem development and manufacturing.

Follow the money trail. Only thing I can see is both think they can make more money cooperating instead of in conflict.

Mediatek is working on making 5G modems, Intel decided to quit after the Apple/Qualcomm settlement so no one else makes 5G modems that I'm aware of.

In addition Apple customers have complained about connectivity modem issues since Apple stopped making the iPhone 6S.

    And don't forget intel here

they got caught with the hand in the cookie jar
or would it be two peas in a pod - scratching each others back - leaching off another pea pod

Apple was giving Qualcomm trade secrets to intel over Qualcomm modems - inside info/patent info
    to help develop Intel modems

    read here
    https://semiaccurate.com/2019/04/16/qualcomm-just-beat-apple-into-sumbission/

If you read our last piece on the suits it was pretty obvious that Apple was in the wrong, allegedly caught red handed, and dug the hole deeper with their petty and vindictive reactions. Qualcomm claims to have multiple emails where Apple gave sensitive trade secrets to a competitor, then refused to allow Qualcomm to exercise their contractual audit rights. While there may be some more evidence not presented publicly, it sure looks like Apple was in the wrong.

They did this by trying to build up Intel modems and even allegedly handing Intel Qualcomm’s trade secrets when the Santa Clara company could not figure out how to make a working product. For the billions Apple dumped into this enterprise, they failed because Intel, the best of the non-Qualcomm modem makers, quite literally never made a single device that met their promised specs. No we are not joking, Intel’s modem business was a mess.

    and read here

Why did Intel kill off their modem program?

    https://semiaccurate.com/2019/04/18/why-did-intel-kill-of-their-modem-program/

There is no way to sugar coat Intel’s modem story, it has been a flaming disaster from the start. Intel bought no less than four complete cellular modem units or hired their teams, Infineon, Via Telecom, and Motorola are the big additions in their quest to make things work. One after another pieces were added to plug the holes in the dam but there was no chance of it succeeding. From the beginning it was obvious to any onlooker that the Intel cellular modem program was untenable.

Ok.... but none of that changes the reality of who has what in terms of capabilities.

Our responses are unilateral events that do not change fundamental reality.

They steal, they lie... America has spied and stolen plenty in the name of commerce commingled with national security. Just ask Petrobras...

There is no honor among nation-states... all’s fair in love and war
