Hello EVGA Community,
I've been getting weird and random restarts with my rig lately. It seems to happen whenever I double click a jpg and windows photos kicks in or whenever I leave my pc idle. It's not always the case, but I've been getting a lot of Event ID41 task 63 lately; it happens around 5 times a day.
I made a 3 min clip to show my psu readings:
Evga supernova 850 G+
Thanks d

Remove any overclocking.. Update BIOS if needed, there's been 14 since initial release..Install the latest Windows if needed using the Update Assistant, click Update now, then Run. PSU voltages are well within Intel Specs (Table 5) and as shown in the EVGA FAQ ATX voltage tolerances..See what HWiNFO64 says. Use the OuterVision PSU Calculator to get a good estimate of your system's wattage need. Remove the GTX 1080 and use the i9-9900K Processor Graphics and see if it matters. Not saying your PSU isn't intermittently faulty, but I would focus on other areas for now, especially since it happens at idle also. Just a few thoughts here.

as a general rule though , random restarts are usually an item overheating and causing thermal shutdown procedure / or the PSU is going bad. Do you check the windows event viewer ? - or do you get any error codes.?

I usually get Event ID41 Task 63. When I game for hours in VR or regular 2D games the system is stable and never restarts. It only happens with I double click a JPG or when the system is idle.

Not sounding like a psu issue now. Might want to see if you can reproduce the issue with only one stick of ram installed at a time. Test all of your sticks individually to see if they all produce the same issue.

Yep, I did that already, it happens on all the sticks, I ran memtest for six hours and it passes the test. I took out the gpu and used the i-gpu on the 9900k and still restarted. Gotta be software, at this point I don't know what to do, but I did the psu test to discard that out of the equation hence my thread.

Hmm. I’d try another psu just to see what happens. If you think it’s a software issue a clean install of windows will sort that.

Did that aswell in the past and the restart went away for about 10 days, then it started to do it once again.

IMHO it's one of the following: - You're on a version of windows that has some sort of minor glitch. Make sure you've run all windows, driver and bios updates - Your JPG viewer or browser is buggy, try updating it or using IRFANVIEW. - There's some sort of power state related stability issue. Try turning off speed step in the bios and putting your minimum CPU power state at 100%. Also read your SA and IO ram voltages in HWiNFO64 and lock them at those voltages in the bios, instead of using AUTO. Also consider increasing Dram voltage by .05v or .1v

Ok, I just did a clean install of windows and I left it with the default drivers, I installed the latest October 2020 update 20H2, so far no restart when I leave it idle for more than Three hours. I have not installed any 3rd party apps or drivers, just Vanilla windows, just to rule out any hardware issues for now. I ran the pc for about 68 hours straight, no restart. will install latest gpu driver to continue to monitor, the pc was left idle and it went into sleep mode and woke up with no issue. P.s: Four days later, still no Event ID41.........

I bought an EVGA 850 PSU around feb 2018 on Amazon that was problematic from day 1 with similar issues and I was overclocking hard with a similar system though:
i7-8086k @ 5.1ghz 32gb ram 1070ti hybrid Wd black m2 nvme Evo SSD Max X code 370
I used a kill a watt meter which showed around 475w. Rule of thumb is only run 60% of available wattage which I was well under and you should be easily around.
Ultimately i had to use a multimeter and realised i was getting 11v on the 12v side. I returned the PSU and swapped out an old dell workstation 1100w PSU I pulled from a T7500 that I'm running at today rock solid.
Sounds like you may have found a different issue but if you have a multimeter check the power outputs on the PSU...lots of YouTube vids to do it properly.

Hey, so it's been a full week and still no Event ID41, I think my machine had a driver issue after all, hope you find a solution to your problem.
