No, I just know how to build gaming computers, you did see that I'm running 9x 120mm case fans in an Antec Eleven Hundred right? This the one of, if not one of the best cooling solutions out there.

Close but not 5.5GHz Thank you for running and posting your CPU-Z Validator BUT

Give Core Temp or Aida 64 a test run to see what your CPU and Motherboard Temperatures really are and do use what you LED KB is telling you.
You also get a Custom CPU-Z Tool you can also use run and Post your CPU-Z Validator Score.
Fans mean nothing on Air 60F Air is Still 60F Air that is their is no Wind Chill using 9 fans or 90 Fans.

T(°C) = (T(°F) - 32) × 5/9

So, if one accidentally and incorrectly plugs in a Farenheight temperature of 60 degrees where a Celsius temperature should have been used, the math conversion error becomes
(60-32)/1.8 == 16 "degrees"

99% of Temperature reading on a Computer is in Celsius, only 1% use Farenheight.
But then with this: 80.6F is 27C as to 27F is -2.777777777777778C Then maybe his LCD Read out is really the issue here.
I'm running my 8600k @5.3ghz on the Asus ROG Strix-eGaming Z370 on 1080GTX F.E.
27C under full load on air. (Using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler)

billhol What then is your Formula for this; (Note This is with using only an Air CPU Cooler not a Chiller)
(Not a good word)....thinking a cpu can't run cooler than room temperature....who is the idiot that said that?? (Not a good word)

Re: Anyone hitting 5Ghz with a 8700K and z370 classy? 2018/02/05 18:46:49 (permalink)
There is heat capacity, thermal conductivity, thermocouples, thermistors, enthalpy, oxidation, and electrical conductivity to consider.

Water, which boils at 100 degrees Centigrade or 212 degrees Farenheight, has a high heat capacity but (I think, please correct me if I am wrong) a low thermal conductivity. In contrast, metal has a low heat capacity and high thermal conductivity. That is why an electric stove's element feels hot quickly, but a pot of water is brought to a boil slowly (and why boiling water cools off slowly). Thermocouples take advantage of two metals having different thermoelectric properties (to generate a voltage), as do thermistors  (to generate a voltage resistance). Because many metals oxidize, and because oxides in general have lower electrical conductivity their metals, the resistance of a thermistor is likely to increase resistance as its metals oxidize over time, and the voltage of a thermocouple is likely to decrease over time for the same reason. When exposed to the elements, both thermocouples and thermistors need to be recalibrated as they age.

With respect to ambient temperature versus CPU temperature, short of there being an extreme pressure gradient (which refrigerators and most Air Conditioning units essentially harness) and short of their being an enthalpy of evaporation at play (which would not be good with in a PC's environment, due to water being electrically conductive), and short of a cooler substance being in thermal contact with the CPU (dry ice, liquid nitrogen), it is not possible for a CPU's temperature to be below room (ambient) temperature. Room temperature is generally considered to be 20 degrees Centigrade, but my brother-in-law is a frugal person who lives in the Colorado mountains and sets his thermostat to 50 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter. He and Eskimos can overclock more than I can :).

Some people believe that metal is "cold", but that is due to a human's body temperature being 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (on average), while ambient temperature usually is cooler and closer to 20 degrees Centigrade. Metal actually "warms up" fairly rapidly when held, due to its high thermal conductivity. Some people believe that a fan makes an environment "colder", because that is what they feel. But what is happening is either that ambient temperature is lower than the human's temperature, or the enthalpy of evaporation at is play (i.e the fan's air is making a human's humid skin evaporate its moisture, which means the enthalpy of evaporation is at play). I lived in southern Arizona for 15 years (that region is overclocker hell, IMO) and there were days when my clothing was covered in salt (I evaporated - I didn't feel sweaty) and there were days when my house's evaporative cooler made me feel "cool", due to the enthalpy of evaporation. My house's evaporative cooler only worked on dry days (less than 20-30% humidity). On humid and hot days, I sweated (and I didn't touch my PC's electronics).

Delidding a CPU and applying liquid metal is done to increase the CPU's thermal conductance to the CPU's lid. What that liquid metal does to the CPU's thermocouples or thermistors is not something I have investigated (nor do I want to :), but I am fairly certain the thermocouples or thermistors are sized in tens of nanometers, while the Q-TIP that slathers on liquid metal is measured in millimeters. Only Intel and AMD know what damage to thermocouples or thermistors is being done (perhaps none). When delidding, I can only imagine that the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle is at play ("the CPU looks cooler, but why?"). Delidding is not something I will do, but that doesn't mean I think it is bad (I just don't know).

I have been delidding CPUs since 4770K and can confirm with others that both the gap reduction and better thermal conductivity of a liquid metal reduces the load temperature significantly. Saw a reduction of 15c on my 4770k, which is the median of a 10-20c range.

Didn't do before test with my 8700k this time, but at 5ghz and 1.368v, latest realbench topped out about 72C with AVX also at 5ghz. BF1 sees up to about 60C. However, prime95 AVX2 still peaks near 90C. Idles in mid 20s. 360+120mm of rad space.

The readout on my G15 is from Core Temp 1.1.x, has nothing to do with the software of display because it shows the same readings on Core Temp minimized. What will you say next that Core Temp isn’t accurate? Pffff. drawing straws.... Just admit the way I have my fans is set up creates a perfect cooling solution. It’s all about years doing this stuff. You have much to learn.

The 8600k is the better buy because they OC higher starting at a lower voltage. You have to run Prime95 for aleast 4 hrs to accurately say my CPU is stable @ so and so Vcore. Like I said I could slam my cores to 58 and leave it at 1.31 Vcorevand probably get a CPU-z validation.
