Let's make this an educational moment:

The reason why people mistake scalping as illegal is because laws prohibiting scalping usually apply to people standing near a venue to sell their tickets. But this isn't because they are worried about scalpers inflating prices, it's because the venues or businesses don't want other people selling their product (ex. tickets) on their property, since it's a conflict with their own business interests (i.e. selling more tickets). If a venue has 15 bad seats that are yet to be sold 1 hour before the show open, they want to sell those seats. If scalpers are offering nice seats for $300 over what they paid, then a patron might buy those tickets instead... Which makes the venue zero dollars. It's understood that this happens, and it's not a huge deal because you can argue that the customer wouldn't of bought the bad seat tickets anyway. But the venue just doesn't want this happening on their own property, and that's something they CAN enforce.

Think about Gamestop: you wouldn't be allowed to sell your used game to a customer for 10 dollars less than what Gamestop charges while in their store, since it would conflict with their business interest of selling you games. Same reason.

So everybody stop complaining about scalping being illegal, or unethical, or whatever. Somebody else bought the product first and therefore they should get to decide what they do with it. It's no more unethical than you hurting EVGA's business by selling your 1080 cards at a discount to fund your 1080ti, instead of properly recycling them and letting a consumer buy a new version.

Closet scalpers...or people with degrees in business and economics who have experience running companies? Hmmmmm...

Bottom line you will always have scalpers and cry babies, everyone selling old hardware is just as bad I rather sell someone new hardware then some wore out crap, I have 3 titans just about for the trash and 2 980 ti's soon to follow.

People complaining about others trying to take advantage of market conditions!
 
It is EVGA's job to ensure that all stock is not bought up by unscrupulous traders who re-sell at a profit and to be fair I see them trying to do this with "limit per household" on new launch items.
 
But as others have already said the simple answer is don't buy from the traders (think term scalper sounds odd for me as an Englishman) if you don't want to, as no one is making you.
 
If however you want the said item "come what may" and before anyone else, then traders selling at premium prices are one way and that is your choice.
 
Same goes in many areas of consumer products, how many people will pay extra to get next gen iPhone, Galaxy S8+ etc...., if you are daft enough to pay over the RSP to be "first in your street" to own one, then off you go.
 
Me, I'd just wait until stock was available from approved retailers, but that's just me.

It certainly is a pain paying a gorillion more for something that is sold out so quickly.

amazon and others need to do something to remove scalpers they're the worst

America, home of taking advantage.

I had a legendary edition of a major game sell out at all stores nationwide and then be on back order.
I had to use one of those inventory monitoring stores to finally get one...only to find out there were literally hundreds of the legendary editions being sold on Amazon and EBay for 2-5 times the price.  They create an artificial stock problem plus screw those who are in line to purchase one sometimes even bringing sites down with their auto traffic. I spoke with one person who bought 10, using different accounts to flip on Ebay.  VERY frustrating practice, so at least with EVGA they did stock quantity limits. It's not a perfect solution when people can have multiple accounts but it's something.

Dependent on the date of purchase, I'm not sure I'd be interested in that burger.
