Been on there for a few months in the past, and this is by far the least user-friendly forum I've ever visited.

One of the forum moderators is a bully, and no one else stands up for the rights of the members to protect them against this bad individual.
Sometimes there are trolls, they are there on any forum. But it's worse when the moderator himself is a troll, or really doesn't know how to deal with people, and has been given the task of dealing with people.
I fear a lot of people give up just because of this moderator, which happens to have created several moderator accounts under his name.

I've tried contacting the administrator of that forum, after receiving many negative posts by this moderator, fearing he would ban me, without me actually breaking the rules.
In fact, I follow standard forum policies; there is nowhere were it states people can not participate in the forums.
But he did.
I got so sick and tired, but tried again; in hopes things would dissipate.
But it appears he really prefers to bully participants, or have his click of 10 active users on the forum.
Sometimes I think this is the reason this forum is so empty, and has so few participants.

You can be banned for suggesting hardware, participating in conversations, asking questions, essentially just for anything without really doing anything wrong.
One way they want people to participate in the forum; they state this in one of their sections;
But another they ban you if you do (even if you've been respectful, helpful, and just excited to learn and give feedback), even if your post count is less than 2 posts a day, 10 posts a week...

Anyone else has had bad experiences on the forum?

I'm sometimes beginning to wonder if Vijay is participating in the forum there, or if he's the one doing most of the moderation there...

I'm thinking of moving my servers to another project that uses GPUs.
Open to suggestions!

Yes, the mood on the EVGA forums is night and day difference from there!
I'd have to look at what 'crunching@evga' does.
I have GPUs; and I liked being a part of something greater, for the benefit of mankind.
Boinc seems to only use CPU, and very little GPUs; so they're not really beneficial in my case.
Most servers I have, have very low powered CPUs, just for feeding GPUs, nothing more.

Also, I've learned unless asked, you're not to post your rig info.
The moderator can see this as boasting, and will send you a warning.

Not that it helps, but I've learned the lesson to avoid the forums over there. Which is really very unfortunate, one would think you could get some support over there. I just await word from our guys when they post over there. Sorry you had a crappy experience. It's been like that for years.

I was on the beta team years ago and felt the same way you did. I haven’t even looked at the forums for years now.

Stick with us for help. A good 90% of the time, if we report a  problem over there, until a large number of people report the identical problem, we're automatically blamed for being the cause. We have bad power, have overclocked, don't know how to run a computer, SOMETHING.  It's NEVER the fault of the software, it's us.

I ONLY ever go over there to report outages of the stats now. I try NOT to directly engage because, once again, even if it's a provable fault of the server, we're usually blamed. And it sucks.

So, yeah, avoid going over there if at all possible. It's one of the leading drains of people's love for helping the cause.

Yep, I've had the same experience.  Honestly, I've never seen a charity with such a...confrontational attitude towards the very people they elicit for help.  I've honestly thought about just finding something else to do wtih my hardware.  I mean until I visited that place i'd never heard the term "disgruntle doner" before.  Ever notice that in the logs there's not even a thank you after credit is given?  I mean I'm not trying to say the idea of the project is bad in any way but it's never felt like our contributions were appreciated, at least to me.  Alas, I will continue to fold; for those we have lost.  For those we might save.

On the crunching side, we do a few gpu projects that may interest you including GPUGrid which is a bio-medical project that is essentially folding proteins.

I too have googled my fare share of folding issues and mostly my searches lead me here, "in OUR forum" (pardon the reference) but, sometimes the searches have landed me there. That site is chock full of pointless answers that have been marked solved (or whatever). I tend to scroll past anymore. And what is the malfunction with chronology there? Everything gets so out of whack its no wonder people comment on an old thread because the issue still exists and then they get ridiculed for posting there.
Like others above have said above, I too will still fold but I am also finding myself crunchin happily

Its been so long can not remember why I no longer go there. Not sure if I was banned when they did away with Big Adv .Think I was real active over there around that time and it was not for the good .Its not a nice place even though there are a few over there that are nice . Never seen a nice Mod though!!!

I am kind of hoping the new guy who replaced Pande as head of Folding will clean the place up.  Bruce can get on your nerves at times.

Only time I posted over there was to report a WU server not redirecting port 80 to 8080, was basically ignored and AFAIK that server never got fixed. Quality.

The only time I ever posted over on the FAH Forums was to post the FAH Tracker back in the day that we developed. Was immediately reprimanded and accused of modifying the client when in my post it was stated that the base tray client is used and we built a UI shell that helps for easier control and use of the shortcut flags that were already part of the client in the first place. Though Im quite sure that many ideas for the V7 client we use now came from the tracker we built years ago. I never bothered to go back to those forums.

Yeah, Bruce aka toTOW, and who knows what other names he's adopted, is an asshat!
I think I'll do as others say, stay away from the forum. Don't need them anyway. But keep folding for the ones we love and the ones we lost.
And who knows.. for our future selves perhaps...
Never know, in this society diseases is human's greatest enemy...
I do stand behind the idea of Vijay Pande,
Just hope he's not the asshat of the forum.. could do great damage to his company.

It's funny, I popped in to read the posts I normally don't get to see when I am on my phone and noticed these two posts.

Also, BCav, the article you shared is "broken" for some reason..Nothing shows up except for what I am about to mention.. so, would the article Scott shared be considered "Old News" or "Original News" since the folding at home article actually credits the original article from Washington University in St. Louis just above where the article is supposed to be. I am mostly surprised that Scott was the first person to share the article on the forums nearly 2 months after the article was posted, unless I just can't find where it was shared on the forums.

I haven't posted over on that forum but have turned to it for information from time to time. I just haven't found it that useful most of the time and probably can find an answer here faster.
