I recently purchased the SC15 when it was on sale I'm liking everything so far, except for the audible coil whine coming from somewhere underneath the right side shift/enter key.  Depending on the game/stress, it can go from quite audible screeching to chirping and is loud enough to be heard over the fans at medium speed. I'm trying to get an idea on whether I should ask for an exchange or just deal with it.  The coil whine is present at stock settings, no OC.  Customer service explained they do not process RMA's/exchange requests for coil whine, but since I am still within the 30 days for return I am still able to back out if necessary.  Any input in greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my laptop too, well one of the problems I had with this laptop but expect to loose 150 dollars to return this laptop because of their stupid 15 percent restocking fee and they hold on to that like if their a starting company and needed the money bad.

May I ask if and how your issues were resolved? What other types of issues did you experience with your system besides coil whine? Thanks for replying btw!

Oh actually I was able to see your post history just now regarding the overheating. Sorry to hear about that : ( May I ask what temps your system was reaching at which OC settings (if any)/game etc. ?

I have pretty intense coil whine on my SC17 1080 model, which I would RMA for, but I live in Brazil and is not practical.   Disabling C states in BIOS did take care of my coil whine, so I am fine with that, a little less battery life, but I don't care much for that with a desktop replacement.  Temps are a couple degrees higher only on idling, during load it is the same with C states on or off, it affects mostly idle temps and also battery life.....if you can live with that.

From your description, and considering the location, it sounds like the SSD may be the source of the noise. A noisy SSD is not uncommon. I don't think any SSD manufacturer considers it a defect.

Otherwise, if it's not the SSD, the only other thing in that location which would make sense is the battery charge circuitry, associated voltage regulator, and USB power regulation circuitry.
