Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I just seem mildly related to my issue so here it goes.

My EVGA GTX 980 Ti just died a couple of months ago. The warranty period was over just by a couple of months.

I've contacted RMA thinking I would find mercy but it wasn't very helpful. It looked like I would have to throw a 700 USD card in the garbage.

Needless to say, I'm devastated. 700 USD is a huge amount of money for me. I bought it back then because I really wanted to treat myself, as I was going through a hard time in life. But expending this kind of money in a GPU is outrageous for my financial reality.

So I went on and sent the card to a guy that repair PC parts, he actually did repaired it and said the core of the card is like brand new, the problem is on the electrical side, which is the most simple and non-longterm-damaging problem that could've happen. Unfortunatelly, weeks after that the card died again, the same way as before: No artifact or overheating symptoms. No temperature above the expected or fan going loud, not anything. It just wouldn't turn on. I'm guessing it's the same issue as before and this card can be saved.

So, do you guys think there's anything I can do to try and save this card somehow? Anyone (a technician perhaps) that would buy this card from me (obviously aware of the that it had a problem)? I'm about to send the card to the guy that fixed it again, he probably will make it work but I don't think it will hold for very long, unless he does something different this time (utilize higher quality capacitors/parts, which I don't think he have access to, he is somewhat new to fixing gpus).

In a last desperate resort, anyone with contacts with EVGA sellers think they could offer a cupom/discount on a new card, given all my history? Maybe they will take my card as part of payment for a new card?

I don't know what to do, any help/idea is appreciated.

A couple of months out of warranty is an appreciable amount of time.  If it were a week or less....not sure what they would do, but I have seen vendors bend for a week.  EVGA doesn't do trade in's or credit for old hardware, even if it is theirs.  Looks like your only option is to purchase a new GPU.  The 980 TI was the equivalent to the GTX 1080...which would be similar to the RTX 2070.  There are still plenty of 10XX cards still for sale.  Unfortunately...their prices have increased due to the big increase in the 20XX series.  Do you want to stay at the level you were at, or step up to more performance?  The 2070 series will be about what you paid for the 980 TI.  Stepping higher will be another $200 + for the 2080 and upwards to $600 for the 2080 TI.

The other option is to have the repair guy work on it again...but that didn't prove to be too successful.  Newegg has the 980 TI for sale used...but frankly they are getting what the 2070 costs (and is brand new, with full three year warranty).  Considering the age of the 980 TI...even a purchase from Newegg won't have a valid warranty, and if it does...very short term left.

Hello thanks for the reply, yeah I'm trying to figure out what to do at the moment, I plan to get the most performance as possible, I just need good value out of a card that matches 980 Ti or outperforms it. My guy is taking a look at it right now, he will get back to me next week or so, lets see how it goes...

Your question is in the warranty section of the forum. Now that the repair guy has already worked on the video card at least once, I think exercising your warranty rights are well and truly no longer an option. In my opinion, your only two options are: buy a new video card, or pay for your existing video card to be repaired again by a third party. EVGA does not offer a repair service.

7 months out of warranty is quite a bit more than "a couple" to be fair.

I get the feeling the repair guy only baked it. Perhaps you could try this if you are desperate. Google "GPU baking".

    Good luck.
