Hello Evga people
It´s been awhile since I have post something on here, and haven´t bought any comp parts lately. Except GPU and a new case.
But it is time to buy some new gear and get ready for twenties. And specially finally need to install Windows 10, so I want to make really clean install with all new parts in it.

So, atleast first going to buy Intel i9-9900k with Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero motherboard. 16gb Corsair memory. Corsair H115i RGB Platinium cooler for CPU. Samsung 500gb Evo M2 for bootdisc.

OK, those will come first, but then I want an upgrade to GPU. Even thou I love my Strix 1060, being damn cool and quiet card, I want and miss something from Evga inside my case . So been thinking of EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC ULTRA. Now here is a catch too, cos I want new monitor also. Asus 27" ROG PG279Q IPS 165hz is on the top of the list. Or maybe it is that I want that monitor and I know that I need a new GPU then

OK, let me know some expierences with that Evga GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC ULTRA. And how big boost compare to my old GPU?

As an farther not that much time for serious gaming. My gaming is pretty much; Heroes and Generals, CIV VI, Football Managers to name a few. ... And also waiting to get my hands on Borderlands 3 and RDR2.

Thanks

Get the FTW3 ULTRA 2070S, it has FAR higher power limit than the reference based 2070S cards.  Ditto for the 2080S if you can justify an up spec.

    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/evga-geforce-rtx-2070-ftw3-ultra/33.html

If you can accommodate it and afford it, the 2080 Super FTW3 Hybrid combines the high power limit with a AIO that works pretty well.  Ton of card for under $800 and the best you can get short of moving up to a sub $1k 2080Ti.

There is also a 2070S XC Hybrid for under $600, but I believe it has the same power limit as the ref cards and thus wouldn't really justify the need for a hybrid, though it should stay under 50C all the time if set up really well.

The 2070S XC Ultra does seem like a pretty good card, I personally think there are better choices.

You could easily justify a higher tier card to properly drive that 1440p165 monitor.

Not sure what the CPU loading at high frame rates looks like in the games you play, but remember to budget for bare minimum 3000CL15/3200CL16 ram, preferably 3200C14 b-die (Samsung chip) ram which ain't cheap but 30% less than it was 6 months ago.  Maybe consider 32GB as now is a good time to buy.

Also look into Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC if you're a diehard Win 7 user.

While we're at it, have a look at the HP EX920 and EX950, you can get into the 1TB versions of these drives for about the same price as the 512gb 970 Evo Plus.  The 1TB EX920 is actually just as fast as the 512GB Evo plus while being the same price, the 1TB EX950 is a bit faster and $20 more.  The 2TB EX950 has been as low as $250.

    Kevinc313,
Thanks for the replies. I will stick to 2070, cos need to stay inside my budget. Already got a bit higher with the monitor. It is 144hz (OC165hz), no need to overclock that. I love my Dell monitor, but it is made mostly for my photographing. It is only 60hz, and noticing a "lot" of input lag with it. Surely I would like to have 2080, but like I said, I will buy GPU later, so who knows ;)
And I have had 2 FTW gpus before and love them, but in this case, cos I will not overclock my card, I think that Ultra will be enough or, maybe if had some more budget earlier in the next year, then it is 2080. Thou then I would need a new PSU :D

About gaming, most important for me is Heroes and Generals that we play online with friends. With my current set up, i7-2600k at 4300MHz my FPS were around 90-120 yesterday. So will see pretty good jump on those numbers with 9900K.

Those Corsair memories are 3200MHz with CL16, and so far every Vengeance memory that I have used have been fantastic.
And, yeah about m2, I was also looking Intel 660P 1TB that is actually same price now with that 500gb Samsung Evo.

Hey happy to help, can only offer my own two cents.

I think you'll find it pretty hard to push 1440p144 in the most modern games, it's pretty equivalent to 4K60 on the GPU, but with more CPU demand.   Personally I started with a non A-chip 2080 and it could not hold 60fps 4K at higher settings in most new games, so I went for a 2080Ti hybrid and maxed it out with good fans so I could run max power at reasonable temps.  If I had do do it again today, I'd definitely buy the 2080S FTW3 Hybrid if I could get it under $800.  With an overclock and good cooling, it should be right in the mix with a 2080Ti non a-chip at stock clocks.  The 25% gain I get vs. that with the maxed out 2080Ti is not worth double the price.  You'd need at least a good 650w PS for the 2080S FTW3 with max power limit.

3200CL16 is middle of the road and better than the memory I'm using, but most people running 144hz and loading up their CPU's are opting for 3200CL14.  You may not need it though if the 9900K itself provides enough power.  Not sure exactly how the pricing is on Corsair memory but I'm pretty sure G.Skill is considerably less, especially for b-die.

The Intel 660p is a good utilitarian drive, but not fast at all compared to the latest drives.  The speed is definitely noticeable on Win 10 where it is constantly going to drive.  Definitely check out the HP offerings.

It sounds like all of this is a bit overkill for Heroes and Generals, but hey, forward compatibility. I've been playing a ton of Minecraft Java 1.14 recently and my GPU doesn't even get out of bed.

it seems you copied image instead of image url (it looks correct in editor, but actually it is decoded as text in post :) ) or it is a editor bug (I am getting same sometimes when I am posting images, but I don't sure that I copied image url).

You have Nvidia drivers for your Card & Win 7 ?

You can try to run X1 ..... I've not tried it under Win 7 ... I run the older EVGA Precision XOC on EVGA 10 series GPUs w/ Win 7 Pro 64-bit

XOC was Not designed for the 20 series Cards ... so, backup your drive & test it if you want to

This GPU should be 1800MHz. But seeing all the time 1950MHz-2000MHz.
Nothing overclocked, except from MSI Afterburner giving:
    - Unlock Voltage Control
    - Unlock Voltage Monitoring
    - Force Constant Voltage
    https://prnt.sc/pl7y8c

Just took that print screen on last gaming session and max temps were +64C ... I love this card :)

    Sweet

Yes, Nvidia Boost 4.0 will automatically boost the Card to its max based on Load, Watts & Temps ... OC software can help get every last drop out of the card

Run GPU-Z while Gaming and look at the sensor tab to see what is possibly hold your card back ..... "PerfCap Reason"

OK, seems like Precision didn´t work perfectly.
First, yeah I could change colours, but when I went to gaming, it was like vertical tearing in the middle of monitor. But actually missing a few lines of pixels. When reboot comp, colours change back and picture looked perfect again. SO I will try it again, when installing Win10.

    thanks for the update

Did you make any changes in Nvidia Control Panel  - "from the stock settings"

What if anything have you changed in Precision "from the stock settings" ?
What Monitor model [Resolution + Refresh MHz] & cable type are you using ?

    ... and Win 7 64-bit

Def look into obtaining LTSC.  The only version you'll be satisfied with if you're a diehard Win 7 user.  Support ends soon.

Only thing I changed in Nvidia, even before I install Prescision, was G-sync... and 144Hz... and "Texture filtering - Quality to High Performance"
Asus ROG Swift PG279Q IPS 144Hz and DP
Everything works fine at the moment, but I guess, like Iwas asking before, it doesn´t work perfectly at win7 like they said.
