Can anyone from EVGA that monitors this forum let us know if it's possible to have a BIOS update that allows us to set a min/max charge for the battery, like start charging at 40% but stop charging at 80%? I just lost two Dell Venue's due to battery bulges. It turns out Dell had this available in the BIOS, but I wasn't aware of it, never thought this would happen. At least I can replace them, but with our battery, I don't think we could in the future. To extend it's life, is it possible to have a future BIOS update to include that? It looks like a few others offer that, like Samsung: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/problem-with-max-charge-setting-on-laptop-battery/481702bc-c350-40bf-9772-12d8d511cf3c?auth=1

This is what happened with my Dell's (not my video, but I can't upload pictures here, but it's exactly like what happened to me with the battery): youtube.com/watch?v=SCHYQ8u5T5w

alex, you asked in the thread about removing the battery.....easy enough....this a picture.
The battery is manufactured by Getac, perhaps we can find a way to source one in the future.

Hi Vistarshook, THANKS! I'm sorry for the delay in replying, I was thinking it would come in by email for a response, but I think I forgot to subscribe to it for responses.

Thanks, that's good to know in the future. I don't really care about the battery, as it will be plugged in nearly 90+% of the time, but for edge cases in my case uses, it's good to know there's a possibility, plus, after the Dell Battery Experience, I'll be checking on the battery every year for signs of bulging to prevent internal damage. If I could, as easily as some Dell's/HP's have on certain models, I'd just take the battery out and let it run on the DC brick...just don't want to open it up yet until I get a good deal on the 850 EVO 1TB (probably it will be the 860 at this point)

I'm hoping EVGA used SUNON for the fans, as they seem to be the #1 supplier for laptop fans today, which is good for us, since they will probably have a replacement model for us in case if we need it. If it is, I'll probably order a pair this year as insurance in case if they can't be found in a few years. Anyways, my SC17 will be going to my son in about 3-4 years and I'll probably get a 6/8 core when they become standard HE/Gaming laptops, so I hope to get another 3 years out of it for him. Currently, he has my HP Envy from 2014 (I thought it was a Pavilion, but it's actually an ENVY when I checked)

And wow, I'm thankful I didn't get the R14, looking at videos for the repaste and new pads, it's a lot of effort. I know Dell changed their thermal application, but it still gets high temps, though just not uneven, at least compared to the SC17, but with the conductornaut liquid metal, I've seen on one video for the R14, they got incredible thermals.

I will be repasting with conductonaut in two weeks or so, and I will post the results.  Since I need to remove the whole motherboard on the 1080 model, I am still gathering courage....haha.  I will check the fan part number as well.

Good luck and thanks! From everything I've heard about it with using liquid metal, on Gamers Nexus and ownordisown and others, it's really effective. Your current thermals are really good based on your tests, esp. the PCH -- still in awe of 37C, mine with 22C ambient idles at 47C with an occasional dip to 43 (haven't caught when it hits 43C, just that HWinfo noted it,) I'm looking forward to your results with the conductonaut.
