I loved portal 1 and 2. The puzzle level based game play was very enjoyable. My experience with mods has been hit or miss.
Anyone know of game that has similar elements? Or even if you liked Portal as well and have another puzzle game to recommend.

I had fun with The Talos Principle.
Also, if you haven't heard of Portal Reloaded it's free on Steam. It adds a time portal and new levels.

Talos Principle (difficult), The Witness (difficult), We Were Here (the full series, really enjoyable co-op), GRIS, Journey, Ori and the Blind Forest, It Takes Two, Antichamber (Portal-like), Old Man's Journey (only if you get it cheap), Never Alone, Sea of Solitude (recommend for the message), Inside, Little Nightmares, Tick Tock ( A tale of Tw) - CO-Op, Limbo,

I've read good things about Portal Reloaded and Portal Stories Mel for more Portal, both free, and supposed to be really good.
It doesn't have portals, but I just played Youropa recently and it scratches that portal itch of making you feel brilliant once you see the solution. Probably not quite as clever as portal, and without the story, but navigating around the 3d spaces upside down, it often felt like you were solving an MC Escher style environment

Portal is nice as is Talos Principal and Witness, and The Room series now that you can do all of them on PC. Obduction was interesting too

Both are not extremely difficult but haven a nice dark atmosphere that really stands out for me

I also agree that Inside would be a good pick. It’s side scroller but has a lot of puzzles to solve.

Just to mention a more obscure one, Relicta is fairly interesting.
I just got that on humble monthly I think. I've been playing more levels in Portal Reloaded. The time portal definitely adds a lot more to keep track of. It is really well done.

While not exactly a puzzle in a traditional sense, SUPERHOT is a first person shooter / puzzle where you more or less, through trial and error, solve map objectives.
It's really fun, especially in VR

Portal Reloaded was just released. It's technically a fanmade sequel, but it's an enjoyable puzzler. Free on Steam.

Baba is You is one of the most clever puzzle games I've ever played. Not as action-y as Portal but quite a lot more challenging and engaging than most other puzzles, imo.

The Talos Principle and Road to Gehenna and of course Portal. Spacechem if you don't mind never finishing/mastering it (probably) but enjoying the experience.

Infinifactory. It's older. It's relatively cheap, $15 if I remember correctly. It's basically a small factory puzzle game with Minecraft like piece placement. I'm surprised it's not more popular, it's very slept on. Super engaging too.

I 2nd everyone saying The Talos Principle. It's a great game. There are also Portal spinoffs besides 1&2 since you like those two. For instance: Portal Reloaded, Portal Stories Mel, etc

Play the original version of Myst. It doesn't give you a lot to work with and expects you to actually think like a dev from the 90s
