Jeff Bezos who is I guess is the richest man in the world, asked for donations to help in providing his employees with sick leave pay, because of the Coronavirus. While the rest of us struggle, he has the nerve to ask for that.

Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, 91 profitable Fortune 500 companies paid $0 in taxes on U.S. income in 2018, according to a new report from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP). Across all 379 profitable companies in the Fortune 500 the effective tax rate was just 11.3%, just over half the 21% tax rate under the law.  “In 2018, the 379 companies earned $765 billion in pretax profits in the United States,” the report noted. “Had all of those profits been reported to the IRS and taxed at the statutory 21% corporate tax rate, the 379 companies would have paid almost $161 billion in income taxes in 2018.”Instead, the companies only paid $86.8 billion, roughly 54% of what they owed.

Yep. Zero taxes, and big profit. This is like a millionaire asking a homeless person for a 20 dollar bill for gas.

Yet people do nothing wake up

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

If Capitalism collapses it will be because of Jeff Bezos. An eager runner-up will be Larry Ellison.

I used to mine. Now I compute.

This isn't true. It is people with sick leave can make a donation of leave balance to other employees. So unless you work for Amazon and have sick time to give up then it doesn't apply. It's not a cash donation from the public. Also it's important to understand these people are under medical leave and still have a job with Amazon it's just when they run out of sick leave they get $0 as a paycheck so the donations allow them to get paid.

It would be the same policy for if someone had cancer and had to spend a lot of time off of work. It's not uncommon and being able to share sick leave is kind of a good thing in a job.

Hmm, there may be some truth now, but amazon definitely solicited private donations, and it wasn’t just sick leave from other employees.

seize his assets and give it to the workers

17b net worth and he can't afford a few a few million

his business is growing he has to hire more staff - parcel delivery is up specially when no one can go out to shop

so he's only paying for those who are sick

why should i pay when i can get gov to pay...more $$$ in my pocket mentality - in a disaster or national emergency

Billionaire Amazon boss begs for more money for sick staff
While Amazon is seeing its business go through the roof as people locked in houses need deliveries, its boss claims he can’t afford to pay his staff sick leave.

Amazon announced it is hiring 100,000 workers to try to meet surging demand. But as Popular Information reported last week, a significant number of Amazon’s workforce -- mainly part-time employees and contract workers -- are not receiving paid sick time.
In response to the pandemic, Amazon said it would provide two weeks of sick leave to “all Amazon employees diagnosed with COVID-19 or placed into quarantine”.

The guy is unreal for making that public.  I mean, we all know a ton of high level corporate owners are D-bags - but to actually come out in the open with such foolish whining is amazing.

Incredibly, Snopes marked this story as true even though they explained how it came about in their summary. Here's the relevant part that debunks this story - it's the third party donation service (not Amazon) that have that part for public to donate:

We are not and have not asked for donations and the Amazon Relief Fund has been funded by Amazon with an initial donation of $25 million. The structure to operate a fund like this, which hundreds of companies do through the same third-party, requires the program to be open to public contributions but we are not soliciting those contributions in any way.

What really scares me is that people believe this FUD and are so quick to pick up a campaign to complain about; until they pick up a new complaint campaign tomorrow.
