Alienware has announced that their 55-inch OLED gaming monitor will release on September 30th for $3999.99, offering users support for AMD's FreeSync technology and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

While some reports on this monitor have claimed that this screen only supports DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0, we must note that DisplayPort 1.2 only supports 4K at up to 60FPS. Our guess is that this screen is actually using DisplayPort 1.3 or 1.4, which actually support 4K at 120Hz. In total, the screen is said to feature a single DisplayPort connection and three HDMI 2.0 connections. The screen is also said to support four USB ports, a single headphone jack and a SPDIF audio out connection.

The rear of the screen is said to be VESA compliant and offer a 0.5ms grey-to-grey response time. The screen also features a remote, which allows the screen to be controlled at a distance. Some reports have also claimed that this screen will lack HDR support. This screen's North American release date is September 30th 2019

OK who has 4000 dollars to spare? Yes the price is $3999.99 US dollars. I will be disappointed though if HDR support isn't there.

Specs: AMD 2920X Threadripper, Corsair MP510 M.2, 64GB Corsair RGB Dominator,  ASRock X399 Taichi, Corsair 1000D, EVGA RTX 2080ti Black

Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF

Without HDMI 2.1 and HDR G-sync, anything over $2,000 is a complete deal breaker.  I feel like having RGB is costing $2,000 as the latest LG Oled has HDMI 2.1 and video cards are going to get it sooner or later.

I think I would rather buy like a 65" 8K television for my home then this monitor for $4000. A monitor this big is overkill for size with a degrade in features. Getting a great 4K monitor in the 32" range and a Kingpin 2080Ti graphics card would be cheaper.

From the testing I have seen by Rtings.com, the burn-in is hardly an issue from 2018 OLEDS going forward unless you only play games with similar HUDs.  As long as you mix it up you are safe, and if you are really against watching movies or TV that is dynamic in content to relieve the issue from setting in, then play the content when you are not around to watch it although that would be a waste due to the bigger issue.  The real downside is the lifespan of as low as 10,000 hours before you would see a noticeable decrease in colors, only if you had a brand new screen next to it to compare to would you see the suttle difference in I think blue degrades the quickest.  Realistically you can probably get 15,000 hours if you are demanding the best picture, and then use it for less important content after that as I am certain the superior microled will be affordable by then.  Which 3 hours every single day for 9 years would be 50 hours shy of 10,000.

My LG 27UL500 is IPS so screenburn is nonexistent and service life is whatever the backlight LED can do to survive.

27" IPS HDR and full 100% sRGB which makes me happy

So far no screen has covered the whole color gamut

In a way I think that is the best use of money right now. This monitor according to the specs feels like the goal was to be big instead of really being the best and it does so at a very expensive price.

For $4000, I'd build a top of the line $2000 gaming PC with a $2000 4k 144hz gsync gaming screen OR a monster OLED TV screen with all the bells and whistles in 8K.

Who ever thought of this price point is drunk!...hic!
