I'm in the market for a new monitor now that my year-long waitlist ordeal with EVGA is finally over. I know Alienware just released a OLED 34" monitor, but I really want something larger (since I currently own a 34"), so I'm focusing in on 38". I've narrowed it down to (from cheapest to most expensive): 1. Alienware @ $1299 from Dell. 2. LG @ $1599 from Costco. 3. Acer @ $1,616 from Amazon. Obviously I'm not made of money, so the Dell seems very appealing. I've read that the AW and LG actually share the same panel...why the LG is so much more expensive is a bit puzzling to me. I'm hoping to get some feedback. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Well check the specs for each monitor and then decide which one is better for your wallet. There is one 38 inch monitor on Newegg for less than 1000 dollars but the refresh rate is only 75 hertz.

Do you want taller or do you want wider? I do love my g9, absolutely immersive to the extreme. But if you want taller, I would be tempted to get a 42" lg c2 oled. Not too much larger than a 38 and will be worlds better in image quality than either of those (and probably cheaper).

Hmm, never thought about that. I just looked up the latest one and LG has the price at $1399 https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-oled42c2pua# I wonder why that OLED panel is relatively cheaper than some of the IPS panels? And it's 4K? Is there some gaming monitor premium versus a TV used as a monitor? One thing I'm worried about is the distance. My desk isn't that deep and I know I'll be pushing the optimal limits with the 38. I'm just wondering if I will be too close for the 42.

Its because oleds eventually will burn in no matter what. Theyve tried all kinds of tricks and software etc.... and it always happens. Its a nice idea, they do look good, but they arent good enough for long term ownership and i def wouldnt spend money on them unless i had throw away money. Too many headaches. I own the Alienware one and i think its a great monitor. Its got a good panel exchange warranty for even one dead pixel etc... for 3 years, it has gsync, curved but not ridiculously curved, a LG base panel like you mentioned, great stand setup with height/tilt all directions, great rear accessory connections, etc... At full brightness you will get some corner bleed but i dont see anyone that runs them that way other than reviewers for a review and the HDR isnt too great but im kinda biased with hdr and not liking it anyway, but its nice its there i suppose. The LG panel is very good too about the same but no gsync and does run at 165hz unlike the Alienware which they limited to 144hz, but 144 is plenty at 4k. The Acer is ok i suppose but i think theyve gotten a little full of themselves and have gone way too high with there pricing. I went thru all this like a year ago like you are doing and i ended up with the AW.

Thanks. I ended up ordering the AW. My desk isn’t deep enough for the 42” anyways and I just couldn’t justify spending a few hundred more on the LG or Acer based on the specs and reviews.
Looking forward to using my new video card with it!

Awesome brotha! I think youll be happy and you bought it at a good time while on sale, although i see the sale and msrp prices have gone up. A year ago they were on sale for 1229 when i got it, but 1299 isnt that far away. Now if it was 1900 we were talking it would probably be a little bit different conversation. I came from a 24" 1080p AOC monitor and the clarity, curve, gsync, etc... was a jarring change for me but i def enjoyed every minute of it, lol. In the end, theres trade offs that are good and bad with every monitor out there and you just cant win it all, but you can get pretty close.

I am thinking about the alienware myself.. I got an 4k LG now but its getting alot of corner bleed. I was thinking about the Samsung G9, but i am reading that is has so many issues i dont think its worth risking 2k on it.

I went with a Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo and couldn't be more happier with the performance. Its like the 3090 was born for this type of monitor.

Im in the same boat actually. I been eyeing the 38" alienware and the new 34" OLED is supposed to be bad ass, but im not into the skinny wide 34". I bought an LG ultragear and the G7 i have now and i wanted a taller frame so went with the 32" G7. Now, the 38 is just as tall and wider, which is why im considering it. I would go for the alienware vs the LG for the 3 year warranty alone. bu i dont knwo what i would do with 3 monitors lol. Prob give one to my nephews.

38" Inches it will be a lot being that close to you for what you said but 42" Monitor well not going be nice at all. I choose 27" and is just perfect being my distance is 34" from my Monitor My desk is big custom build by me so is very comfortable for me. I would say f your going 38" inches a distance off 40"- 45" would give great enjoyment. Well than there's 45" that have far enough to give you the ability to enjoy it fully.

Alieware and their low refresh rate monitors. They could never hit the 240Hz at 3440x1400 or 3440x1600. I'll pass on 1920x1080 at 240hz Your paying nearly as much for the Alienware premium monitor as you would for a Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo v2 edition. Clearly you will also need a premium grade GPU for the best user experience. I have not found a better monitor to date.
