But in general, UHD630 can only handle 4K 24fps standard HEVC.
If your test video is oldies such as 4K X264 X265 format, which consumes much more hardware procession, then you need a 1050 or higher GPU in order to have enough spec to play it.

What?????
x264 and x265 are libraries for encoding video into MPEG-4 AVC and HEVC formats respectively. A video encoded by x265 IS HEVC. UHD630 will play it back hw accelerated no problem.

Hi all... seeing a good deal on faster RAM on Black Friday, and in the hope of getting more performance I bought new RAM which supports XMP.

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/bls8g4d30besbk

I removed the other RAM I was using and installed this RAM.   It works with BIOS memory configuration in "Auto" mode but when I switch to XMP Configuration #1 it just hangs on boot with a POST code of 28 (or 2B?) on the LED display.  After a short time it reboots and repeats.

Unfortunately I didnt bother to check compatibility before buying this RAM and now I see on the Crucial website that the Z370 Classified K is not listed as compatible.  :(

A few questions if you can please help me:

1.  Any ideas on manual settings I could try to get it working with better performance?

2.  If that doesnt work then I guess the question is if I should bother to return this and try again with new memory... how much of a performance gain can I really get with faster RAM like this?

3.  Every time this happens I cannot boot and get into the BIOS so I switch to the second BIOS, reboot, switch back to the first BIOS and run the firmware update (to v1.09) to reset it.  Surely there must be an easier way to reset the BIOS settings that I'm missing?

Thank you for your continued help!

Just tested another bunch of videos.

H264 120fps 101Mb/s - 22fps
HVC1 60fps 78.2Mb/s - 24fps
HVC1 60fps 74.2Mb/s HDR off - 22 fps
HEVC 60fps 64.3Mb/s HDR off - 23 fps (4K Ultra HD Blu-ray dump)
So how can you say it "no problem"?

CPU i5 8400T

1) Change your RAM to Corsair Vengeance LPX series for XMP compatibility. They're using SK Hynix chips. Personally I don't trust Micron chips and Samsung B-die chips in certain condition.
2) Don't bother on RAM frequency, Dual Channel & BIOS settings since they don't improve UHD630's performance that much.
P.S. Give up demanding UHD630 to have enough performance to decode 4K >30fps videos as soon as possible.

Yeah, at this point I've understood that I'll need to get an expensive video card (probably 1080ti) to get the performance I want.

I said it is no problem to playback HEVC and that x265 is HEVC, if you bother to read.

Now then, as to your video playback problems, it seems you do not know what HEVC profiles are. As I posted on the previous page: https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/hd_graphics_630
The specs for the GPU show us it can playback HEVC at Main 10 5.1 level.
Quick trip to wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Video_Coding_tiers_and_levels
Shows us that HEVC Main 10 5.1 decoding profile can do up to 4,096×2,160@60.0.
You can look up similar specs for VC1 and AVC if you want to find the limits of decoding there.

I would guess your problem is a badly configured MadVR (you're also many versions out of date). Your HEVC 60 FPS clip should playback flawlessly, as you say it's a 4k BluRay dump. Considering Kaby Lake was literally the only PC platform that could do official 4k BluRay playback for quite some time,  if you are claiming that Kaby Lake iGPU can't playback BluRay then you are provably wrong.

As I suggested to the other guy, try testing with VLC to be sure your codecs aren't messed up. The hardware is more than capable.

Good site for test files here: http://jell.yfish.us/

Continue to throw your money away I guess, doesn't make it true.

If you insist UHD630 can handle 4K 60FPS then evidence please.
4K video 4K output.
No 4K video 1080P output.

Besides that, everybody should know video playback requires not only decoding but also rendering.
UHD630's rendering speed is ultra slow.
This also affect the final FPS of the playback.

The H264 120fps 101Mb/s video:
i7 8700 decode + UHD630 render - <10fps
i7 8700 decode + RX550 render - 48fps
UHD630 decode + UHD630 render - 22fps

BTW
1080Ti decode + 1080Ti render - 60fps (capped by monitor)
i7 6900K decode + 1080Ti render - 60fps (capped by monitor)

I also tested 1080Ti and 2080 on HVC1 60FPS 74.2Mb/s HDR off.
1080Ti has no frame dropping.
But 2080 has.
I need to disable D3D11 presentation in MadVR to make 2080 faster. But for 1080Ti I don't need this configuration.
This means 1080Ti may be the very best GPU for video playback nowadays.
So I don't think it's a waste of money if OP buy one.

Honestly bought this kit too because they had it working with Ryzen. And I'm wanting to throw that together.

7700k/5.2ghz-1.34v/ FTW K/ custom Loop/ Crucial/Micron Ballistix- 3200mhz/ Vega 56 Reference/ Cooler Master GXII Pro 750w

Huh? I literally posted the evidence.... Go click the links and read up.

Also not sure how the requirement suddenly shifted to random nonstandard formats you found on the web, OP was asking to playback 4k HDR movies at 24 FPS.

You want more references?
