Well my wife's pc is close to on its last leg eight year old cpu/mobo. So will be taking my 10th gen i9, MSI Z490 Carbon and my Crucial Ballistix sport 3000mhz, a 1TB M.2, my EVGA CLC 280 putting it into her machine.
I will be getting myself a 12th Gen i9, Gen4 m.2, yet the motherboard is where I am stumped.
Going back and forth between these two boards
MSI MPG Z690 Edge and the ASUS ROG STRIX z690-a, sadly there is not really an in-depth review on both boards. Pretty much some basic reviews, then other places opinions with going back and forth. Anyone got any input?

Well guess I will go with the MSI MPG Z690 Edge, the ASUS is nice, but the whole lacking a digital audio port for the price, some of the bios issues I have heard about and some m.2 nvse or whatever drives not playing nice with the board. Then the dimm slots sometimes being doa on arrival. Was hoping to get some insight here guess none have really touched those two boards.

It's too early to tell and no many are trying to buy new hardware without reviews since they are not being built well.
Since you used MSI before im pretty sure their quality of motherboards have improved

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I've built a few PCs now with the MSI Gaming Carbon line.  Very easy to use BIOS.

I,ve had great results with the MSI line of mbs. The carbon line is just right for price to performance,at least it was on the z590 anyways

The MSI z690 was the fastest board I have ever returned in my existence of pc building. The bios constantly froze over and over. I couldn't do anything other than want to smash that board to pieces. I've done my own personal build with the Strix D4 and its great, did a build for a friend and it was also great. I will never steer away from ASUS ever again tbh because every time I do the boards just a dumpster can.

    My Setup
    -ASUS PG259QN, XG248Q
    -Lian Li 011 Dynamic
    -MSI Z490 Meg Ace
    -10900K 5.2GHZ

    -Artic Freezer II 360MM
    -16GB Viper 4400MHZ
    -3080 TI Founders

    -EVGA 750 P2

I have had good luck with MSI in the past as well as ASUS. I don't think that you can really go that wrong and if her old computer is 8 years old she probably wouldn't have anything to complain about.

Iam very happy with a Gigabyte Z690, a very good ddr4 motherboard, the Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4, it has wifi/bluetooth and rgb, 4x M2 slots, is heavy, beefy heatsinks and nice looking.  The bios is very easy to use, when I received it, flashed to latest bios with their quick flash feature, then started and loaded xmp profile and some overclocking. for $230 used from amazon warehouse good deal.     my 2 cents
