ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Swift PG27UQ, a 27-inch G-SYNC HDR gaming monitor that is the very first to offer 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) gaming visuals at an ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate for the gaming experience with incredible contrast, deep saturated colors, and stunning brightness. Quantum-dot display technology gives PG27UQ a wide DCI-P3 color gamut for more realistic colors and smooth color gradations. In addition, PG27UQ has a peak brightness of 1,000cd/m² and a high contrast ratio for exceptional distinction between light and dark hues. G-SYNC variable refresh rate technology provides tear-free, smooth, and low-lag gameplay. PG27UQ is built for gaming enthusiasts and pro-gamers, and is designed to take gaming visuals to a whole new level.

I think it is the first, and I would have bought it probably when I was looking to replace my Yamakasi Catleap if it was around at the time. Now that I have by Acer X34, I don't ever see my self switching from anything like it ever.

Very tempting and a decent price.  If only I never experienced ultrawide.  It's going to be hard to go back to 16:9, but damn, that pixel density

27"... why. WHY. Useless. 0/10. Will not buy. And after using OLED, I can't go back to LCD.

If you're running 4K, you're likely after PQ. And you'd get MUCH better PQ and immersion by using a curved 55" LG OLED TV, for the same damn price.

It's all about pixel density. A curved 55" 4k tv is going to look less sharp than a 27" 4k monitor @ 2-3 feet away.

PG27UQ will have a PPI of 164. Best option if sitting 2-3 feet away.
    PG278Q has a PPI of 109.
    A 23" 1080p monitor has 96 PPI.
A curved 55" 4k tv has 80 PPI. Worst option if sitting 2-3 feet away. More immersion than PG27UQ @ 2-3 feet? Sure. Better image quality than PG27UQ @ 2-3 feet? Nope.

Higher PPI = a more clear/less jagged image. I use my monitor at 2-3 feet away.

the QLED by samsumg is as good as OLED .....just look at the comments from CES trade show on the comparison between the two

LG OLED Signature W vs Samsung QLED Q9: Picture resolution
Appearances aside, it’s on to picture - or, rather, its resolution and sharpness.
The problem here, of course, is that both boxes offer UltraHD 4K. That’s 3840x2160 pixels on the LG and probably something similar on the Q9 - unless Samsung claims to have a higher count, courtesy of the nano-particles that its QLED tech employs.
With the battle between OLED and QLED being much more about colour quality and contrast than the actual sharpness of picture, there’s little to slip between the two here, at least on paper.

    draw

LG OLED Signature W vs Samsung QLED Q9: Colour quality and saturation

Even before CES, we were hearing that colour is the new benchmark of quality. Both LG and Samsung are capable of building much bigger tellies, but the real consumer want is properly prettier pictures.
Here’s where that QLED tech comes in. It stands for Quantum Dot LED and it basically means that the Q9’s display is packed full of additional tiny particles - between 2 and 10 nanometres in diameter - that are incredibly good at producing saturated blues and reds.
Samsung is claiming that the Q9 achieves 100% reproduction of the DCI-P3 colour range (the spectrum used by the American film industry), which essentially means that any colour can be expressed at any brightness. In short: astounding saturation.
Of course, LG’s OLED tech is famed for its ability to produce vivid, vibrant colours - and the Signature W ought to be no exception.
Still, at this early stage, the Samsung edges it - though only a full review will determine whether it was more marketing hype than substantial evolution.
    Winner: Samsung QLED Q9

LG OLED Signature W vs Samsung QLED Q9: Contrast and depth

Again, until we put the two sets side-by-side there’s no concrete way of telling between the OLED and QLED tech.
That said, it’s hard to imagine any backlit panel - however small the nano-particles in the Q9 are - beating the inherent contrast of an OLED display, particularly that on the Signature W.
Because OLED pixels emit their own light, rather than receiving it from a separate panel, and can be independently switched off for true-life blacks - with no bleed - it’s almost impossible to beat the depth of blacks on an OLED.
Both sets are HDR-equipped, which should deliver solid contrast levels - however, only the LG OLED Signature W plays nice with Dolby Vision: Samsung made no reference to the emerging HDR standard (and chief rival to HDR 10) when unveiling the Q9.
Why does that matter? Well, Dolby Vision delivers both brighter outputs and wider colour gamuts than HDR10, which also means it’s likely to ensure greater contrast ratios.
Sure, smart tech and an anti-reflective coating mean the Q9 can kick out between 1500 and 2000-nit peak brightness (double that of OLED), while first inspections suggest it’ll offer up impressively dark blacks, we still can’t see it beating the natural contrast of the OLED Signature W.
    Winner: LG OLED Signature W

Not sure why people dream about UHD resolution and 144hz combination, we don't have powerful enough GPUs for this. Yes you can debate that new and more powerful cards are always coming but for some reason they tend to forget that upcoming games also require more and more resources from GPUs.

If you spend 2 grands for a display and a grand or two for graphics card(s) then one does not simply accept semi high options under video settings inside PC games.

As for OLED vs QLED - one is without backlight and another one is not, what else is here even to consider :D. Current QHD 144hz IPS panels have horrible backlight bleed issues, would be nice that this LCD sickness would be eliminated once and for all.

from what I understand there are several different types of displays mentioned here:

    Quantum-dot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_dot_display
    OLED https://en.wikipedia.org/...ikipedia.org/wiki/OLED
    and QD-LED https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-emitting_diode#Quantum_dot_LEDs

this seems to be the first type, a quantum-dot enhanced LCD, not the latest tech that is called "QLED/QDLED", a Quantum dot enhanced OLED

I do a lot of video and sound editing, and I'm still surprised to see so many 4k monitors around 27 inch in size, the icons on a 40 inch 4k monitor I had were roughly the same size as my 3440x1440 ultrawide.

PG27UQ is the better choice since you don't already have a 2560x1440 144-165Hz screen.

Wow, 4K + HDR, 144Hz, Gsync, IPS, is this the first one? +1 on a wider aspect ratio

I think it is the first, and I would have bought it probably when I was looking to replace my Yamakasi Catleap if it was around at the time. Now that I have by Acer X34, I don't ever see my self switching from anything like it ever.

I will buy the "catleap" version of this, hopefully at the price i bought my asus 1440p.
