The leading global motherboard, graphics card and mini PC manufacturer, ASRock, is proud to announce that by using ASRock TRX40 Taichi motherboard, the global famous overclocker, Splave breaks a total of five world records on AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X. Also, Splave has overclocked the highest CPU frequency for AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X with 5748.66 MHz.

For those looking for a motherboard that dedicates to overclocking and achieving remarkable performance, the TRX40 Taichi is a must-have. It delivers the 16 Digi Power Phase & 90 A Dr. MOS technology not only to ensure all components are sturdy, but to offer a completely smooth power delivery to the CPU. Dr. MOS monitors current and temperature of each phase, and boost power and performance to the CPU. Therefore, Dr. MOS technology prevents latency or slow power surges, and gives a super stable system and tons of overclocking potential. So of course TRX40 Taichi seizes the five World Records and one Hardware First Place on HWBOT.org today.

That is just incredible.

Already beaten apparently. 10980EX overclocked to 6.0GHz. KingPin.

Umm, what? I don't think that you understood.

Neither 5748.66 MHz nor 6 GHz are CPU clock speed records.

Sure, 5.75 GHz may be the current record for the 3990x, and 6 GHz may be the current record for the 10980XE, but they are different CPUs, not comparable, irrelevant to mention in this thread, and neither one is the fastest ever CPU overclock.

The 5 records which were set by the 3990x were NOT beaten by Kingpin, as far as I know. Please show me where I am wrong. The subject of this thread is that the 3990x beat 5 records, the clock speed the records were broken at is only mentioned as a less consequential fact.

I mostly look at the highest clock speed, which is usually on a single core. Highest benchmark is difficult because number of cores impacts it, so often you're not comparing oranges with oranges. At least clock speed on single core is comparable. Having said that, I'm not a huge technical clocking expert, but I do know what most people look at, and clock speed and number of cores is currently it.
But yeah.. world record clock speed alone is 8+ GHz.. insane.

Many would say that maximum clock speed is quite unimpressive.  Like you said, it's typically with only one core enabled, there is typically no real load on the system, no measure of performance is recorded, etcetera.  But, like everything, it's a measure which someone will find valuable for some purpose.  A record is a record, so no use arguing whether clock speed is worth considering more or less valuable than some other measure of a record.  All records require accomplishment and should be applauded.

Either way, it is quite irrelevant to the content of this thread.  The part I took offense to is comparing only clock speed and saying that the 10980XE beat this 3990x because the 10980XE's clock was higher.  Clock speed wasn't the feat accomplished here.  The measure of work is the feat that was accomplished here; which the 10980XE is currently not able to compete with.

They are in different price brackets, blah blah blah... I am not belittling the 10980XE in any way, I am just saying that I think you caused this thread to go off on a bit of a tangent.

also not to mention that the 10980xe is an 18 core chip where the 3990x is a massive 64c/128t monster
