ASROCK's expecting GPU demand from cryptocurrency miners to drop | OC3D News (overclock3d.net)

ASRock expects its sales to grow sequentially in Q2 2021, despite component shortages and an expected decline in cryptocurrency hardware demand from Chinese miners.

Right now, ASRock expects GPU shipments to improve in the second half of this year, as supply constraints for substrates and other materials are alleviated. This should come as great news for Radeon fans, as this means that AMD's RX 6000 series GPUs should be more readily available in the second half of 2021.

Currently, China accounts for a large portion of the world's demand for cryptocurrency mining hardware, be it in the form of ASICs or repurposed PC hardware. China's declining demand can be seen as part of a broader, global trend. Today's off-peak cryptocurrency values and increased mining difficulties has made cryptocurrency mining a lot less profitable. Beyond that, Ethereum's planned move to a non-mining Proof-of-Stake system will kill Ethereum mining sometime this year.

With Ethereum being one of the most profitable cryptocurrencies to mine, the cryptocurrency's move away from traditional mining will cause many cryptocurrency mining operations to stop or lower their intake of new mining hardware. This will lower the demand for graphics cards from cryptocurrency miners and may cause some mining operations to shut down completely.

If the GPU market sees increased supply and lowered cryptocurrency-related demand in the second half of 2021, gamers should start to expect increased availability and more reasonable prices for new graphics cards. That said, all it takes is another rise in cryptocurrency pricing to cause the world's demand for graphics cards to spike again, so it is too soon to say that the days today's graphics card shortages are numbered.

Personally I don't see that there will be any improvement in GPU supplies for months to come.

i am sure in 2 years (more or less) the market will be flooded with these current gen burned mining gpu cards
and i am aiming for the 4000 gen as well ( along DDR5 and pci-e 4.0)  but honestly..  i dunno anymore if i wanna keep this up.

its getting very expensive and AAA games aren't worth all the money anymore..

my GF is right in a sense of way...
if there is no AAA games or enough AAA titles... in the market that justifies thousands of EUROS invested in pc parts >> then why buy such hardware?
instead she prefers a 400 euros to 600 euros console and be done with it... away from all this hassle.

i may be stuck with my current set up for a LONG time.

let's see but i think ASROCK is been too optimistic about this.
mining aint going away.. scalping aint going away either!

I wanted a new card for my new rig.  But right now, the only thing I can get are identically spec'ed cards or something inferior.

AND I HAVE TO CAMP MICROCENTER LINES TO DO IT.

So, the entire 30-series is probably a complete write-off.
I'd been hoping to get a waterblock unit (not an AIO).  And was willing to drop the exorbitant MSRP.

But the current situation is running a marathon, blindfold, in clownshoes, through a minefield.

Screw it.  I refuse to be ripped off.

But, at some point, the complexity of the cryptocoin is going to increase enough that GPU mining simply won't cut it anymore.
All the rich miners will just move to ASICs and all the bottom-feeders will move on in search of the Next Big Thing.

ASROCK makes AMD only video cards. Yes they will go down in miner purchases as AMD cards are only good at Ethereum mining.

I really doubt the Ethereum switch to PoS is going to happen this year. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen until the second half of next year.

Again, I'm not looking for an AIO-GPU unit.

I'm looking for either a regular card, or, if I can manage it, a card with JUST the waterblock pre-installed.

    I have this AIO unit.
It's not a sealed system, as it is actually built out of off-the-shelf parts and is expandable.
So, lucky for me, I can add on later.

It's not going away. There are now 3 coins to takes Ethereum's place. This is with just a RTX 3070.

Yep and Nvidia's LHR has ZERO affect on these coins.

Based on other info on the web GPU demand is declining in Asia, but only slightly.

Yeah but what price will they set for the 40 series cards? Think they'll make it more reasonable again? I don't.

There will be always some coin to mine to some degree of profitability, but you gotta keep in mind that most of the mining hashrate is currently going towards ethereum. Most likely the network difficulty will spike hard once miners switch to other coins and profitability of these coins is sure to drop. Just look at XMR (Monero) right after they switched from CryptoNight (gpu friendly algo) to RandomX (cpu friendly algo), profitability was good for maybe the first month after the switch, then the network hashrate skyrocketed and profitability fell HARD. I'm expecting the same to happen to these coins once ethereum is out of the game.
