A fresh batch of rumors suggest that AMD is currently in the early design phase of the RDNA 3 architecture, and it could represent the most radical change of GPU design ever. AMD could shift towards using a chiplet design for its RDNA 3 architecture, similar to the chiplet design used on the revolutionary Zen architecture. This would let AMD mix and match many different GPU IPs together, where we could see I/O like memory controllers and other parts of the chips being put on different nodes. The main GPU dies (in this case, RDNA 3 chiplets) could be on the 'Advanced Node' (5nm with TSMC) while the other parts like the memory controller, can be on a different node.

RDNA 3 on the next-gen 5nm node by TSMC: We heard back in May 2020 that AMD would be tapping TSMC's next-gen 5nm node for its upcoming RDNA 3 architecture. The article from May 2020 detailed a leaked investment plant at-a-glace shows what TSMC has planned for its 5nm N5 and enhanced N5+ nodes. In the image, TSMC refers to AMD's upcoming Zen 4 architecture CPUs and RDNA 3-based GPUs, NVIDIA's next-gen Hopper GPU architecture, and many others including Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 875 and Snapdragon X60 5G modem. We don't know anything for sure just yet, but I'm sure we'll begin to hear more concrete info on RDNA 3 once AMD lifts the lid on RDNA 2 later this year. As for the chiplet rumor for RDNA 3, it is incredibly exciting -- it's not something totally new as we've heard rumors of this before, even for NVIDIA.

I applaud AMD's design effort to improve their graphics.

LOL - I seriously doubt that AMD will ever beat Nvidia in performance
everytime they said they would they have failed

you also have to remember HOPPER is Nvidia's Chiplet GPU and will be bringing a more complex Chip on Wafer design

I'm not very sure that is their plan. Performance isn't the key requirement for strong sales.

don't underestimate AMD as they already selling their cpu's like hot cakes ...
i am seeing more and more and more amd cpu builds...
not seeing anyone bad talking their cpu's anymore! at least not as much as a few years ago.

    as far as gpu's go....
NVIDIA better watch out or it will end up like Intel

Yes it does take that nonbelievers😼

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags!
The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. When you abuse it, it reverses on you and it hurts you.The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I don't know if next year's AMD's graphics will beat NVIDIA but I believe the performance gap will narrow.

    i change my previous quote:

    "times are changing"
what ever AMD is doing...  is doing it right! i must admit it!
i'm not a fanboy BUT i would never EVER consider AMD cpu's or gpu's a little back in the past.

and if it's true that AMD is really stepping up their game... then there hope for me for the nVIDIA 4000gen OR MOST LIKELY whatever AMD has in the oven in 2022/2023 IF prices STOP going up..
because 1000€ is ridiculous for a Ti graphics chip.. and over 1000€ is ludicrous!

AMD reduced their R&D in the GPU division - thats why Raj left

you can't win when you do less in research and development to beat your competitor

Intel problem is they sat on their Arses - Nvidia is not such a fool - and why  you have ray trace from Nvidia BEFORE  AMD did

This literally sounds like nothing more than a factory tuned FPGA chip...

    https://www.xilinx.com/pr...icon-devices/fpga.html

You’re always going to be stuck with the tradeoff between features and performance when designing any IC. “Chiplets” are not a magic bullet to overcome the limitations of a fully integrated IC. For every design decision to optimize one feature - your going to be trading off functionality and speed somewhere else.

Chiplets cannot hold a candle to the speed of a completely integrated IC with every core sharing the exact same silicon. Not even close.

I used to mine. Now I compute.

Again, I don't think performance is AMD's current GPU focus.  I think that they are trying to make something which is broadly capable at a very competitive price.  Performance isn't the key requirement for strong sales.  I'm sure that they will try to optimize for performance in later revisions.  I am sure that AMD saw how well this philosophy worked for their CPU line and is trying to adopt a similar strategy for their GPU line.  Start out with acceptable GPU performance at a great price, and then slowly walk that upwards.  After enough revisions, if their performance reaches parity with their competitor's, they can start pricing them comparable to their competitor's.  Until then, use the chiplet design to slash their production costs in order to enhance profit and slowly gain market share.
The word "crush" doesn't necessarily imply performance.

    Someone did his homework😺.
Exactly, you figured out and i must say is a nice strategy.

RDNA 2 does not even launch until Nov 2020 & were already on RDNA 3 rumors .... going to be better than anyone else - sounds familiar, I'm happy to wait till chips are out & third party reviews have good evidence of performance

Hopefully AMD can do better, at least offer us a 2080 performance, solid gpu drivers out the gate, with raytracing and countinue better and better support for avitivesync for $500, Id buy my first AMD GPU in over 10years. Nvidia if getting insanely greedy, and i for one wont suport than kind of greed.....
