https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/amd_confirms_that_zen_5_is_already_in_development/1 It has already been confirmed that AMD's Zen 3 core is "design complete". This means that AMD Zen 3 core architecture has been locked down; and that AMD is now moving into their testing and manufacturing stages for Zen 3. Now, AMD's core design teams are preparing for both their Zen 4 and Zen 5 architectures. AMD has confirmed both architectures are "in the design phase" during their Horizon Executive Summit in Rome, Italy. Now that Zen 3's design is finished, AMD's engineers have moved to Zen 5, a CPU architecture that's due to release in 2022. AMD hopes to create a strong brand with Zen, Ryzen and EPYC, 1-upping Intel by offering customers a clear roadmap while continuing to execute on its promises. AMD wants EPYC to be a brand that customers can rely upon in 2022 and beyond. While AMD is working on bringing 3rd Generation EPYC and 4th Generation Ryzen processors to market in 2020, the company's design teams are busy working on the two product generations thereafter. With this in mind, we can be confident that AMD has plans to deliver increases to CPU performance for the foreseeable future, which is great news for the PC market. Personally I hope AMD continues to manufacturer with TSMC's lower die node processes for future gen processors.

I expect that they should work on multiple projects in the background to maintain a sense of progression and not lag like Intel has. However, I also expect to see a new architecture on the horizon, post-Zen. I hope Zen doesn't turn into their own Skylake and then AMD gets to lag with multiple iterations and minimal IPC towards the end.
At the very least, similar to Intel changing architecture to Cove while reusing the Lake family codename, I hope AMD does the same thing where Zen 4 or Zen 5 is based on an entirely different architecture and we don't know the codenames yet.

Well there is only one way to find out now is there? If AMD does the same thing intel did thats..... mostly fine but yeah by Zen 5 they will need something new. If AMD can get more IPC gains then I say they will be fine so they can take time on the zen successor.

When chip design happens in 4-6 year space of time it doesn't surprise me at all they're working on Zen 5. People think chips are magic and they're instantly from concept to fab in a year. Doesn't work that way.

Nah, one Zen a year. Zen 3 is next year, Zen 4 brings DDR5 in 2021, and Zen 5 will be in 2022. First-gen DDR5 is probably not the best thing to hold out for, but Zen 5 is definitely too long to wait. Zen 3 is IPC improvements and low-hanging fruit optimizations, Zen 4 is DDR5, but haven't heard anything about what Zen 5 will bring.
Have water, will cool.

Parts of Zen3 were put into Zen2. Zen3 will be ok but not mind blowing. Zen4 will be crazy. I'm getting this info from Moore's Law is Dead and RedgamingTech. They've been spot on.

TSMC should be at 3-5nm die shrinks when Zen 5 rolls around.

AMD Ryzen 4th generation 4000 series in 2020 and Double Data Rate 5 memory (DDR5) in 2021. It should be interesting the performance gain over AMD Ryzen 3rd generation. The future of AMD is promising! And there will be another one after that and another one... (National Treasure)
