https://videocardz.com/newz/report-amd-ryzen-9-4950x-5950x-engineering-sample-boosts-up-to-4-8-ghz

AMD is preparing to launch its next-generation Ryzen 4000 series of desktop processors based on Zen 3 architecture, codenamed Vermeer. Thanks to the sources over at Igor's Lab, we have some new information about the clock speeds of a rumored Ryzen 9 4950X Vermeer model. Featuring 16 cores and 32 threads, the Ryzen 9 4950X is reportedly going to feature boost frequency of at least 4.8 GHz. Given that this is only an engineering sample, the final frequencies could be higher. In the report, the base frequency of the CPU is said to be 3.5 GHz. This is a very good frequency for a CPU that has that many cores. All of this information is coming from decoding the OPN code which states "100-000000059-52_ 48/35 _ Y". The 48 number indicates the boost, and 35 the base frequency. In the previous reports, we got OPN codes "100-000000059-14_46/37_Y" and "100-000000059-15_46/37_N" which suggested 4.6 GHz boost and base of 3.5 GHz, indicating that this is a new stepping.

I fully expect final production chips will have an even higher frequency.

A 4.8GHZ boost on 16 cores is excellent.

I dunno what I'd do with 16 cores at 5Ghz but I'd be happy to find out!!

Nein😾. You must buy. You can't skip the cheapo price per performance ratio that AMD is offering😼

engineering sample ...  will production units be the same or better ?

it would have been nice to see thermals listed -- so we see if "per-core voltage adjustment" make a big improvement

100 MHz better boost clock than 3950X ... not a huge jump

I see a lot of DDR4 4000 chips starting to hitting better pricing marks lately... gotta figure manufacturers know this new line fixes a lot of those memory latency issues & can handle it after the node shrink.

There's also the IPC improvements and the shrunk memory controller... so this should be a 8-15% jump even if clock speeds don't make a huge leap forward.

Hearing IPC will be around 15% better, with a bit more clock speed for around 20% over all up lift over current Ryzen 3K.

From what I am hearing AMD is looking to have 5ghz boost on the box but realistically will be 4.8-4.9 in most tasks, which is same as it is currently. :-( boo... I hate this misleading crap!

Anyways these are just rumors and these are always subject to change so believe what you want. :-)

It s an upgrade for me at this point😸. As long as it stays stable above 4.5hz im good😼
