Hello,

Ive had my 980ti for 3 years and its been great. Today when i run any game the temp gets to 90c and 100% fan speeds. Ive updated windows, the gpu, and restarted the computer a few times. Below is a gyazo link to the gpu-z report. Let me know what else to include for better information.

Thank you

Sounds like it's time to reapply the thermal paste.

3 years seems to be THE life of these cards, unless they were waterblocked and cooled.
Is your warranty out already? Or did you get the extended warranty?

Any changes to the system, driver update, new game, anything?

Your specs didnt attach, so can you print out what your hardware is?

It sounds like video card went out, or more specifically, the fan controller?
Others will walk you through the thousands of stuff to check, like try it in another system, downclock it, install msi afterburner and see if you can manually adjust fan, and the DDU/uninstall/reinstall/uninstall/safe mode/etc etc etc.
Sajin will help with that stuff.
    :)

Roger that..Would be exactly what I would do, and roll from there.

@ tgenera..Welcome to the forums..You can't post links until you've made 10 forum posts (spam control), but you can put a space between the https:// and the rest of the URL such as shown below so it will show up and we can put it back together again..Replacing the thermal paste on the GPU (simple) won't void any EVGA warranty you may have as long as you don't break/damage/scratch the card in any way.

3 year at best life span seems to be the thing [and lucky if you get that far ] . looking over the last few months here  at all the posts .

its not like the paste ''just out of the blue'''  gave it up like that  . as long as it did not brake contact   with the chip and coldplate / cooler  its pretty much forever .   not to say with use and age the pcb may warp and do this .

thing is  I got builds and hardware as old a 1999 era  and to this day never had to change the paste on any of them .    then I guess then it was not all about quality china parts [..lol... ]  and how to insure quicker hardware sale turnaround  .  why lifetime warrantees  that were common are now at best 2-3 year [ like said and lucky to make that ]

anyway , all you can do is try any suggestion and hope for the best  then if not for the best your just back to new egg or rma.

I see now with a new understanding  that every time I now fire up with this 900 card  with out issue I just got to knock on wood  and say thanks.....

    Death.
    Lots of pastes dry up.
The stuff evga uses is like fluffy flour with a dab of water in it.
I dont think it lasts very long at all.
Also, I have had Zalman ZM-STG1 dry up on me after 9 months (kind of the same grayish paste, although it was more 'wet' than what evga uses, and much much thinner, but less 'bubbles'  in it by far.
Thats why I always have used AS5, because way back when it lasted the longest before I had to put more on. Heck, I think I have an old core2duo/quad I used it on, that still runs, that I have never changed, and that is what, almost 12 years old?

EVGA uses Shin-Etsu paste on their GPU's which is among the better TIM materials out there. I've since switched to just using liquid metal. With a bit a technique, it's nearly the perfect solution as long as your materials are compatible.
