Ok guys so I bought a classified 980ti and it has a asic of 74% and will boost to 1405mhz @ stock.
However when I up the core more that 20mhz I get red squares,  strange flashing patterns / fuzzy lines ect when running firestrike but it does not crash!
I can up the power slide to 115% but it makes no difference......have I just got a bad card or is it faulty???
I use prefer max performance in nv control panel and ive change the display port cable just to be sure.
Cheers Wils

That mean your graphic is probably overclock to the limit buy fabric and it's not capable to OC more.
With massive voltage increase and water cooling maybe you could pull around 100MHz more.
Usually cards below 77-78% ASIC are not so good overclockers. I say usually, some of them OC very nice and with ASIC below 75%.
I hope everything is OK on default and you can enjoy in games.

That may mean that even though the card can run above manufacturer clocks thanks to go boost 2.0, that it is pushing itself to its limits already.

This is part of the silicone lottery.

Can you try switching between the two bios on the card and see if they both react exactly the same?

As far as the statement of cards below 77-78% asic not bring good overclockers, that is 100% incorrect. There are plenty of 60% cards that overclock just fine, like all of my 980 cards, that went to 1550mhz, and none of them were above a 69%.

As another example, there are people on the overclock.net k|ngp|n page that have 80%+ cards that won't overclock.. Welcome to the silicone lottery, where overclocking is not guaranteed.

Its all good at stock and my temps sit at 70 ish with fans at 80% , ive tried both stock and ln2 bios and both have the same result.
Guess its staying at stock speeds then.... it gets 16700 on fire strike.

I have a 980 ti Classified with ASIC of 65.3%. I OC'd to 1467 on stock cooler. Temps are in the mid to high 70's on fire strike.

I just got the 980ti Classified (eBay) and am having the same result as you. The card shows in GPU Z an ASIC of 78.8%. Without doing any overclocking, the Boot clock will go between 1404-1412MHz. I can do a manual OC at +10 to +15Mhz, but once I go above that, Heaven4 will crash. I see people getting 1500-1550mhz on air, but I can't get mine above 1420Mhz.

Overclocking is never guaranteed. It depends upon your system components as well.
