My 980Ti went splat. Pop, smoke, and then the smell...too bad Scotty wasn't screaming 'she can't take anymore Captain!'. It had a good life. Made it six years. It was housed in my brothers rig (a hand me down) when I purchased my 2080Ti. It's how things work around here :P. I had a chance to purchase a 3080 or 3090 back in January but gave up my spot in queue thinking someone else would need/want it more than I did (my 2080 Ti is fine for what I do, but I was going to upgrade this year and, of course, pass this card on to my brother). Should have hit the purchase button back in January. If I had known the 3 series would be this limited in availability...I would have. Really am not interested in bottiing to snag a card. No chance my brother can afford scalper prices. No chance I'd pay them anyway. Is anyone having any luck with used cards? If so, where? Sorry, I am not a frequent purchaser of hardware these days (although I have been around with EVGA for a while now and have purchased cards from them exclusively).

I would look at the EVGA Marketplace before anywhere else. I am very weary of EBay and Craig's List....lots of scams.

Thank you, will check it out. For a gaff, I looked at what a 3070 is going for online. Yeah, no chance.

EVGA B Stock? What is this? I had 2x 980 Ti in my old PC (like 6+ years ago now) and was thinking of getting another one for cheap to hold me off until the 3080 Ti comes out.

I'm living in fear I'll end up the same way. I still rock the 980Ti, and reading this wakes up some fear I'd much rather keep buried down below. I've seen a number of them on various sites, and they don't seem to be scalped too incredibly high (more than I'd hoped, less than I'd feared).

My 980 Ti Hybrid is still going strong. Fingers crossed that it holds out.
I don't actively use it anymore, but I have been thinking about building a mid-range system with it to sell.
What kind of card are you going to upgrade to now?
PS - would you be up for selling your 980 Ti heatsink? I've been wanting to convert my hybrid to air cooled 😊

As long as you document everything (and buy through Goods and Services instead of Friends) they will very much be inclined to side with the buyer.

my 980 Ti died recently too, no flames or smoke or bad smell so hopefully not a short. I am not usually that way inclined but with the market as it is and availability non existent I thought it might be worth a try to fix it myself as I have seen some forums suggest simply removing and reapplying thermal paste that may have broken down could fix (possible as my card is 6 years old) or even if the PSU is not delivering a consistent 12v anymore to replace the PSU. I am probably not going to get a soldering iron out, that scares the $hit out of me. Anyone had a go at trying to 'repair' yourself?

Yes, quite a few people. If you don't have success repairing it, there's a good chance that you will find someone on eBay who will buy your broken GPU to repair.

I was actually going to tear it down and frame it, but I think I'll actually open it up and have a go at it. Mine just would not display anything. It just stopped doing video output from any port at some point. I don't know if its dead. I think i'm gonna try and fix it. If it's just thermal paste or a simpler component, then it shouldn't be too difficult.
