Hi,i just bought an acer 144hz monitor and found that the graphics gets messed up after some time and changing the resolution locks up windows 10 64 with a black screen, have to reboot, the messed up graphics also shows up in bios so it's not a driver issue.

What i did is used a hdmi cable and set it to 120hz,been running with no issues for the last couple days,so my guess is there's an issue with the video cards display port, since it runs in dvi with no issues as well.

Anyone else have this issue and found a solution since it's no longer under warranty?Wish i had tried a displayport cable when i bought so i could have had warranty.

Was your dp cable vesa certified? Did you test all the dp outputs?

The cables weren't stated as vesa certified but all 3 dp cables i don't think would have the exact same issues where the screen after a few hours would instantly get messed up,there's only one dp,one hdmi and a dvi-d and dvi-i.

If all three cables weren't vesa certified that could definitely be your problem.

if you google it around you will see a lot on port issues with the 900 series  ,  may look at a bunch of them to see what helped  if it did so  ,  the display port seems kinda common .

I googled previously and none of the posts were similar to mine, using a dvi-d causes a snowy picture in 144hz,its ok at 60hz on dvi, already am on hdmi for the last 3 days,i am taking Sajin's advice and going to try a vesa certified dp cable.

With Sajin on this one. Some high quality cables go a long way! Worst case scenario you're out a few bucks, but have known quality cables for the next venture.

unless its another junk cable the dvi ''dual link'' should work    using that for years  with out issue   [dvi-I from card to hdmi to monitor ]

'' Single-link cables and hardware support up to only 1,920×1,200 resolution, but dual-link DVI supports 2560×1600. DVI is capable of 144hz refresh rates, so it's a good choice''

that versa may not mean much as far as certified goes [ 1.2a - seems  for AMD gimmickware use ?]  , but I would select the latest revision

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort

sure its not the monitor ?

I'm sure it's not the monitor, the monitor menu looks normal when the video loses all details and smeared up,the issue hasn't returned since I've been using the hdmi port but I will find out the problem when i get the vesa certified dp cable.

YA,  maybe just one of them 900 series things  ?   try what you can and hope it works out . its nothing but more money .

seeing you use that malware service called windows 10  [lol]   have you looked at any of that and non working display port ?

with the release of the service [windows 10]  NVidia sure seems to struggle  with drivers  and fixing issues   like this and flickering and shuttering and so on ? just glad I not been duped / forced  in to using it .; i'll give up computer bulding first  before I stoop to 10 .; glad theres Linux around still

heres something why not burn a live dvd of linusx and see  if it kicks the display port in ?  cant hurt

if I had a display port use here I don't even know if it even works on my 900 card ..;lol.   heck it may not as well ? dvd-I and hdmi seem to be fine [so far]

You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact.
Note: It is also possible to write the ISO image to a USB stick or other memory device and boot from that,
or to boot from the ISO image on the hard drive, but these options are somewhat more advanced and the
method presented here is recommended. For help with alternative methods of installing and running Linux
    Mint, please visit the forums.

I keep a copy or 2 handy for testing  or what ever   just takes time to boot up  but once to desktop off the dvd it fine and you can go  play around on it  like a full harddrive os so to say ..; even shoud go online and all

Well the screen glitching came back again with the  1070 and certified dp cable. The glitching never occurred while using the hdmi cable so i''ll see if it's ok with the 1070.

Hmm. Maybe there is something wrong with the 1070. I'd do some more testing with the 970.

I don't think there's anything wrong with either video card cause it does the exact same type of video smearing so my best guess is the monitor cause i still can't use the dvi dual cable on the 1070 cause it has the same snow effect on 144hz,with hdmi it works fine.

Yeah, it probably is a monitor issue, but since you're experiencing the issue over dvi & dp you may have a faulty dvi cable as well.

All you really need is 120hz.
    144hz is overrated.
As someone who has played nothing but twitch games and car games (until maybe 2013), with nothing but high-end monitors and systems, I can tell you that 144hz is not better than 120hz.
120hz is tops when it comes to gaming, where you can see any difference.
I have true 120hz monitors, and 2 144hz monitors, and I cant tell the difference between the 2 at all. The only difference is that dvi does not introduce input lag like hdmi and dp does. Or, it introduces MUCH less anyway.
Enjoy stable 120hz frames and gaming, vs the 144hz.

    :)

You literally have no idea what you're talking about so why spout off with nonsense? There is virtually no difference in input lag from DVI to DP or HDMI they are all digital signals with no input lag advantage one way or the other across the standards. The only variable would be cable quality and the signal receiver of the monitor.
