The 04G-P4-3979-KB model of the 970 SSC ACX 2.0 is inherently flawed. This model is only available at best buy as far as I can tell and has no dual bios and only 6+6 power connection. These cards will not hold their voltage even with Kboost on. Every forum I have been able to find out about this model says to avoid/return it. It's black mark on EVGA for even calling this card "SSC".

K boost is for clocks, not voltage. Is that what you meant?

Dual bios isn't on every single card out there. It is a feature only on certain cards. Some cards are specific to best buy, just like some peripherals are. Usually they are different just by a tiny bit for some reason.

Most everything you listed is readily available on the best biy page or on the box.

I personally do not like buying from Best buy at all. Only when they have a really good deal on something, but no other time.

It does have two dip switches on the back for bios switching(0db bios=1, SSC performance bios=2). It can hold voltages from 1.2500v-1.3125v. The 6+6 connectors are not an issue. TBH Kboost is garbage, sorry EVGA. If the stock bios was stable from the beginning, we wouldn't need to modify it bring out the card's full potential. You should do more research before spoutting off random statements about things you don't understand!!!! Maybe you just got a lemon, which doesn't mean they all suck!! This is what a crappy 3979KB is capable of if you know what you are doing....

It's probably not holding the clock and voltage with KBoost on, because it's hitting a power limit.  Run GPUz with the sensors tab going and run a stress test.  If it's hitting perf cap reason PWR, then it's throttling due to power limitations in the stock bios.

Since it does have dual BIOS why not try to flash the BIOS to a different custom one?

Good Lord, DeathAngel74! Those clocks And that temp! Nice work.

I bought one of these from BestBuy also, not knowing it was any different than one from Newegg
just to save myself a few days waiting for shipping. It was in stock down the street so I figured why not.

It runs everything I play very well at stock, but I did play with the clocks a bit just to test it out. My card doesn't seem to like to go over 1500mhz on stock voltage,
and I rarely touch voltages unless it is a recommended work around avoid an issue.

I was not aware that the card did in fact have a dual bios, that was one thing I also read was wrong with the card after having already bought it, it not having a bios switch.
So, you say there are 2 dip switches on the 3979 for controlling which bios it runs? I'll have to give it another look later, that's great news. Where about would those switches be located?
Would it then be running the SSC bios by default?

I haven't had a real need to push the card yet, but I'm happy to know that it has the dual bios setup after all so I at least have the option of flashing one of them at some point without worrying too much about it.

looks like it has duel bios........
my 3795 runs the no fan till 60 C by default, I switched it to the
fan on all the time and like that bios setting better....

KBoost works the way it was intended to work.  It locks in boost clock and boost voltage.  That's all it's there to do....not magically keep you under the power limit.

card is crap, $500+, last 3 years 1 month, off Evga. never over-clocked, never was abused, always kept clean and dust free, never operated in a hot environment. World of Tanks on Ultra was most taxing game played.  Dies 1 month outside warranty. For the amount of money I spent, I should have lasted longer. Evga edited my post. also see the took away the offer for me to possibly RMA my card. Snakes in the grass
