I currently have a set of Ripjaw DDR3-2400 ram in my Z87 Classified, however I just stumbled across a set of 4x4gb sticks of Samsung DDR3-1600 for free (Need to be tested of course). However, assuming they all work, would this be a wise decision? Would it be worth it sacrificing the speed of the memory for the extra capacity?

Personally, I'd stick with the 2400MHz set unless you find yourself maxing out the 8GB you have now.

You can grab AIDA64 Extreme (30-day free trial or pay) and set it up to log all kinds of memory usage (System usage, Video card usage, Free memory, Page File usage, on and on) as well as many other things..Then play games, benchmark and do what you normally do on your PC while AIDA64 is running/logging in the background..See how much memory your machine is actually using and then make the determination if more memory is even needed at all and roll from there..Unused memory is 'wasted' memory and adding more when not needed will have little-to-no benefit.

You would really need to monitor your RAM usage while gaming to know.  And different games will use more/less so testing a variety is better.  Other things you may be doing or have running while you're gaming will also impact usage.  I would just do what you do and monitor usage to see.

As long as you're not maxing out what you have, I'd keep it over the slower speed Ram you mentioned.

Some games will eat up 8GB of RAM with no problems.

If the ram tests fine I would sell them along with your current ram, and pickup a new 2400 MHz 16 GB kit.

    That is a good plan.
