I am not sure where 8400 GS falls in the organization scheme.

I have an HP 6000 with video on the motherboard.  When I plug in the EVGA board, the screen stays dark.  Obviously,
the computer does not like the extra video.
But when I boot up and hit F 10, I can't find any option to disable the onboard video.

Are you able to go to the bios with the monitor connected to your video card? not onboard video.

Also, look under advanced settings in the bios, that's usually where you can disable the onboard video from HP systems.
