One of my two 500GB Western Digital drives in my data RAID-1 array failed, so I thought I'd replace both drives with a matching pair of Seagate Barracuda 1TB drives.
 
After installing one of the new Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS (1TB) as a non-RAID drive "D" (drive C is a RAID-1 Raptor array), the system will not recognize it ... no drive "D".  When I swapped it back to my old WD Drive, there is no problem: the system recognises it.  I've tried it in two different ports.  The BIOS seems to recognize it.  On the first BIOS screen it shows that ST31000340NS is in the 3rd port.  My BIOS settings for the eSATA config were all set to eSATA as disabled; so, I tried with ports 3-6 enabled (the RAID-1 "C" array that uses the first two ports works, so I didn't mess with it) -- that didn't help.  I tried this with both of my new drives to reduce the chance of a DOA problem: neither would work.  I've uploaded six shots of my BIOS I took with my camera ... the file names explain the content.

 
So, how do I get the MB to recognize the Barracuda ES.2.

    Bios have write the settings about your drives. Which drive it first and second and info about it and etc.
    The way to fix it is easy. That what you should do.
    Go to advanced bios features.
    Choose harrd disk boot priority and then hit enter.
    In submenu use arrows to put your hdd on first position in the list (number 1). Save bios settings.
    After that everything should go fine.

    very good drives, those are made for high use server duty so they may act a bit strange in a "regular" board.  I used some of those in a security camera DVR and had to do something different to get them setup, just cannot remember what it was.

    I don't understand what your issue is?  Your MB is seeing the drive just fine?  Is your issue that you cannot access it within Windows?  If so, that is a totally different issue.  Go to Administrative Tools => Computer Management => Storage => Disk Management.  Then enable and format your drive accordingly.

    very true, if the drive is not formatted then he would not see it in my computer. my case with these drives was a bit different since is was for a special application.

    I guess he is one that goes by "If it ain't broke" theory.  Unless he is experiencing issues, there really is no reason to update the bios as you are taking a chance every time you do update it that something might go wrong and kill the board!(until the bios chip is replaced anyways)

    The only reason I brought the subject up is because I don't think 1TB drives were even on the market yet at the time the P03 BIOS came out....latest BIOS may help.
