Looking to change my stock chipset fan..... Any suggestions? Was thinking of replacing the whole thing with Thermalright's SLi solution and adding a fan to that? I say Sli cause I have to cards in my system..... Are there any fans compatible to the stock heatsink on the chipset? What are the quitest fans that move the most air? I have Scythe's in my case and they are starting to give me a headache..... Looking for a quieter solution!!!!

well alot of people do a fan mod... you get a 60x20mm fan a couple of zip ties and thread the zip ties thru the fans screws and threw the fins of the chipset.. works for me, make sure you get a silent 60mm fan tho otherwise it will be loud.. mine is around 45-50. theres a thread somewhere if you search 780i northbridge cooling you should find it, was done my pwnzor i think.

I'm using the 80mm Noctua fan tied there with the slim steel wire cut out from cableties. It's silent and cools the heatsink very well, also knocks a few degrees off of loadtemps on the CPU.

Was thinking of replacing the whole thing with Thermalright's SLi solution and adding a fan to that? When I had a 780i, there was no option in the aftermarket to cool the NB (SPP) on the 780i. Maybe things have changed since then. Be careful that you are SURE that whatever heatsink you consider absolutely 100% will work for the 780i. The 780i has two chips under the NB heatsink. It has the NB SPP chip as well as a NF200 chip which are spread apart quite a distance. I do not know of any heatsink available which will reach far enough to cool the NF200 chip.

I am also looking to change my heat sink fan. Would the one you listed be the best option?

Many people here use this one, myself included. Works great and even at 100% its still quiet. I use four small pieces of this to mount it. I find the 60 X 10mm fans way too loud, due to the higher RPM's required to get the CFM.

I have been looking for the same thing for 2 years finally after two RMA boards here is a non H20 solution: Enzotech EVGA-780i Low Profile EVGA Northbridge Chipset Cooler. Since the 780i board is aged add on parts are harder to get . I searched the web and found only one place to get it: Performance PC for$ 29.95. It looks like a little screamer I had on my first Gigabyte MB. I also purchased the Enzotech slf-1 south bridge Chipset Cooler And the EnzotechMST-780 Mosfet heat sink. I bought the latter 2 from Jabtec because the price. I hope they work. The principal reason for the purchase: I purchased another 8800gtx on Ebay and equipped them with The Thermal take HR-03 coolers. The large HR 03 will only fit with the coolers on the top of the card. The stock heat sink on the EVGA 780i is to tall to fit the HR-03 in the heat sink on the top position. I hope this info helps someone. Cheers Antec 182 q6600@3.1 8 gig of Corsair 1066, Seasonic 700, 2 EVA 8800GTX with HR-03 + WD 160 Raptor and running Vista 64 for only FSX.

also check your TIM and make sure the cooler is making complete contact with the chips, they a notorious for gaps caused by the pads and the TIM is usually very poorly done from the factory. Also if you want a cleaner look use long, small diameter, coarse thread screws to hold the 60mm fan on instead of zip ties, they don't have to be real tight but just need to grip the fins to hold the fan in place. see my Mods rigs pictures
