Hi all. I'm still rocking the wonderful gtx 770 2gb that I bought about 3 years ago and its been pulling through in all the games that I play with no issues at all. Up until the past two or three weeks, I've been getting a strange electrical buzzing kind of sound that really only occurs after gaming/when closing certain programs. I made sure to check all of my system fans to make sure no cables were touching them, and I even checked my WD Blue HDD...no sounds from either of those. I then took out the GPU and there was no noise after that, so I am thinking that it might be something gpu related (or possibly the psu and/or cables?). When I re-seated the card, I made sure to use DDU to uninstall any conflicting drivers and then updated to the latest 390.77 driver. Like I said, everything works fine as it used to. No crashes or anything severe, but this noise really is driving me crazy lol. My psu is a basic Corsair CX650m, if that helps at all... Here are some youtube clips so you can hear it in action. Any help would be great! :)

From your description it sounds like what is normally generically referred to as coil whine.

Sorry, had to fix my youtube links to the clips. I'd be relieved if it is only coil whine. I wanna squeeze another year or so outta this card before moving on...whenever prices drop.

Now that your video links are there, I change my mind. It sounds like one of the fans is rubbing on the heatsink. If a fan is rubbing, usually it is the result of a worn out bearing. With the computer off and the fans motionless, try to wiggle the fans and see if you can detect any defects.

Sounds like fan bearing noise or cooler fin vibes to me.

Just stop the fan by placing a finger in the center of it, not on the blades, and see if the noise stops..You won't hurt it any, either the fan or your finger.

Thanks for your input guys! It is indeed the cooler/fan shroud that's causing the vibration noise. Found out by placing my finger where the cover is and gently pressed up on it and it went away. I've even taken the fans off and sprayed some contact cleaner onto the bearing and inspected the fins and all. It was still making the noise after that, so I figured there is no real way to fix this. I even cracked the shroud a little bit (right where the screws are) while trying to remove it...stupid I know.

Sprayed contact cleaner into the bearing? RIP bearing. The bearing needs lubrication. Contact cleaner is a solvent which will wash the lubrication out. Worse, it will pull the lubrication out of the sintered metal bushing causing it to wear faster.

Ahhh man, I feel pretty retarded now. Luckily nothing has happened to the fans...yet. And the buzz seemed to have stopped for now. To be honest, maybe I would've been better off just leaving it alone instead of tampering with it and making it worse lol.
