My 660 overheats bad now I don't know why that's clean so I went and bought a wouldn't bought another one just like it and it's still doing the same thing. Am I missing something, I've got to run the fan wide open just play Battlefield.. Is there another aftermarket fan that I can put on there? I took it apart and then put some new Quicksilver on it and clean it out real good but didnt seem to help a whole lot..

I assume you mean the GTX 660 so I have moved this thread to the correct forum.

Define "overheats bad"..What's the GPU load temp getting up to?

Could be high ambient/room temp or internal case temp..Take the side panel off your case and see if it matters much (5C or more).

Yikes..You also might try capping framerate to your monitor refresh rate or 60fps either in the game settings or in the NVIDIA Control Panel or in EVGA Precision..High framerate will increase GPU temp, and some games just characteristically run hot too.

You can make just individual game/program settings changes in the NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings so that the settings aren't applied globally to all games/programs.

If it's really a 660 then that's quite old... Probably dried up thermal compound that needs replacing.  I would also recommend just upgrading instead of trying to find the same, very old card.  A 660 is rough in 2021.

I would try to repaste it and clean the heatsink. For inspiration you can check out video from GN.

Yeah, that was a good thing to try.

I still have one of these going strong (I think it was my first EVGA card).  If a repasting and cleanout didn't help, then it might be time for a new card.

Got a 660ti still kicking over here. I think some of the B-stock options that pop up like the 1650 or 1660's are a good deal.

    Pretty much this.
You could also try to fit an aftermarket cooler on it, but I do not know if there are suitable coolers around anymore.

As someone who just replaced the thermal pads and paste on my 770 and 760, I cannot recommend this action enough. The change is instant and dramatic. Given the lifespan of most thermal paste/pads is 3-5 years, cards of this era have long since been due for maintenance. For reference I found that the 1mm thick thermal pads are the correct thickness (at least for my cards).
If you have never done it before it can be scary, but it is totally worth it.

I am still using my 660.  The thermal pad/paste is recommended.  Also check on the quality of the fans, make sure they are still moving enough air.

I recently got a GTX660 that was in bad shape, took it apart cleaned with 91% alcohol and redid the thermal paste, works great now I recommend it!

I'm not sure if it works, but if you really wanted to you could try rigging an Arctic Accelero onto it
