You can use MSI After burner or EVGA Precision to downclock your card to the point where it works okay..Then in MSI AB enable "Apply overclocking at system startup" or in Precision enable "Apply previous settings on load"..That way, the downclock will be applied when Windows starts regardless of whether AB or Precision is started/running or not..NVIDIA Inspector can be used for that too.
Use GPU-Z or GPU Shark to check the clock speeds.
